This morning I woke up very energetic and then all of a sudden I had explosive d. I tried as hard as possible to push myself to go to work but couldn't. I modium lost its effect. I'm very dizzy and weak. This is my 6th day on D, 6 or 7 times per day on Imodium. This D has become very deblitating for me. It interferes with my life and has become simply that it lives with me and not the opposite.
I did yesterday all inflammation marker tests and waiting for results. How can you control D before it controls your life? I need to do something before it gets worse, I call my GI and then he sends me to hospital.
Your replies are highly appreciated.

Has your GI suggested a bile salt binder at all? That helps some folks that have had their TI removed, to slow things down a bit. Or depending on whether or not you can tolerate it, maybe a fiber supplement in liquid form? Just something to bulk up your stools and hopefully slow things down.
Hope you get some relief soon.

Read the book "breaking the vicious cycle" about
the SCd diet. There is a section in the book on how to control D by going to a bland diet. For some people it works great, for others it doesn't. It is just another option you can look at.

Cholestryamine should help. Ask your GI for a script
. Good luck!

If you don't have any blockage/stricturing issues then I suggest to you what my GI suggested to me....fibre supplements daily and indefinitely....always start off with a small amount and increase the amount only if you find it necessary (not enough bulk in stool) and always drink plenty of water with fibre supplements.
Be warned though, fibre often can cause added bloating/gas, this is normal and happens to healthy people as well, it's just your system adjusting to it (took my system 3 months to adjust but was well worth it....no more D, cut mucous out and less bowel movement frequency)....fibre is your friend if you treat it right....now I can eat all fibreous foods with no added gas/bloating or other issues and I still take my fibre supplement daily as well.

Dear all, thank you very much.
@Lamb 61. I have no resections but I ask will my doc about
fiber supplements.
@ NYS. The book is not available where I live. Could you please give me some tips.
@ Roni. I'll ask my doc to prescribe this med.
@ Pb4. I can't tolerate fibers whatsoever.Would I be able to take fiber supplements and are they ok for the intestines. In the past I used to take psyillum for constipation. Is it the same or different?

Even in remission I suffer from terrible D, it's like my bowels just don't know to stop! I've had bile salt tests including a SehCat scan and that all showed nothing, which explained for me why meds like cholestyramine didn't work. I'm intolerant to immodium and so for the last 9 years have taken codeine phosphate everyday instead, it essentially provides my bowel with an 'off switch' so I can get on with my day and get to work etc. Codeine was discovered by accident for me as it was originally prescribed for pain but helped with my bowel instead.
My doctors are happy for me to take it for bowel control, anything to help towards a normal life!
May be worth keeping opiates in mind if you can tolerate them if other avenues fail.

Minnie, I couldn't tolerate it very well either, but the fibre supplements changed all that which is why I still take them...you won't know until you try...I use one called Prodiem fibre bulking therapy with no issues, other than the added gas/bloating it gave me, but it went away and I already had lots of gas/bloating anyways so more didn't make much of a difference...when it all went away due to the fibre supplements, it was well worth it.

How about
trying L-Glutamine powder, about
1 heaping teaspoon in a little water on an empty stomach - that usually works very well for controlling D?
What do you think?

Have you tried taking Iron suppliments - it helps with anemia and can harden stools.
I was prescribed lomotil when i had bad D.
You can take more immodium than 7 per day if needed. . . until you can get something better from your GI

Dear all, really thank you very much. I will tell my GI about
all your suggestions and see which one he will choose. Things are not getting well if I don't take Imodium and I'm dizzy all the time. Hopefully he doesn't prescribe pred again to control D.
