Has anyone ever met a GI who had crohns or UC themselves?

I was just wondering if anyone knows a GI who has crohns or UC.  Having a doc who has the same disease you have would be somewhat beneficial because he could better relate to your symptoms and problems and what you are dealing with since he would be going through the same thing himself. Just a thought for discussion.

I actually went to see a doctor in manhattan about 8 years ago and he has crohn's disease. He was on 6mp. He said he was in remission. I only saw him once b/c he didn't take any health insurance and it was gonna cost me 250 dollars every time I went. Couldn't afford it then so I had to see someone else. I don't know if they go around advertising it but I'm sure they're out there.

My internist has IBD and is always very sympathetic and responsive when I get sick. I hate that he has it but I love that he really understands!

I see a naturopathic Dr. who has Crohn's disease. I first went to him to talk to him about starting biologics and my concerns with it, and it turns out he takes Humira for his Crohn's! This made me feel a little bit better about being on Remicade.

YES! My wonderful GI has crohns disease herself and she is one of the best doctors in the country. In fact, I believe she is the only one in the states to have all the credentials she has earned. She is very sympathetic and understanding and extremely thorough. She doesn't ever make me feel as though I am making anything up. Love, love, love her!

My GI doesn't, but my surgeon has UC. 

I guess there are a few GIs with CD.  Does anyone know of one in the NY NJ PA area?

I went to a gi 10 years ago. his name was dr gass. that totally blew me away. it was very hard not to laugh. the only thing I could say to him was, your name is very appropriate, but I'm sure he has heard that a million times. Now if his name was dr phart. I would have gone goofy. imagine having 2 gi's one name is dr gass, the other dr phart. or imagine if they were partners. then I would go to them, for sure.

Kudos to anyone who does such a hard job with such a tiring disease.

I think it'd be awesome to have a GI who had Crohn's or UC. I know how helpful my own experience is when I have a patient with an oral problem related to Crohn's or a medication. I can only imagine how beneficial it would be for a GI to have the same disease that we are going through...personally, I've only known of one dentist who has the disease and heard of one other.

Though wouldn't be nice if there were some ER docs with Crohn's or UC?? I think those are the ones who seem less inclined to believe our problems!
