Moon-face Prednisone.

Hey everyone so i got a question.
I'm sure theres 100's of these threads already .( sorry )

I've been on prednisone like 20 times before but now it's gone 9 months and im still on it
my Doc higher and lower the dosage all the time but im at 20 mg right now.
I have a genetic round shaped face ( I don't look fat don't get me wrong :-) ) and on top of that i have the prednisone. Right now it feels like my face is a box.

My question is : Will the moon-face go away 100% ?

and then i really mean 100% because i asked my doctor and he said like ''yeah 98 %''
when doctors doesn't say 100 % it lies something in it. Will the 2 % thats left still show ?
im concerned because this time the moon-face is at the lower part of my face and neck i look like im overweight even tho im underweight. Big face and a small body i really hate it.
Even tho im only at 20 mg prednisone its a huge different at my face , is this because of long term use ?

My doc told me it'd go away after you taper under 20(SLOWLY THOUGH) & he was right. I just got off it last week after being on it for 6 months. It's almost gone already(like 90%!) so I'm very pleased.

i'd say it'll go away as much as 50% once you hit 20 mg. I too have a genetically round face (thanks Sicily) but on the prednisone I just look ridiculous---a big fat head attached to twig arms and legs, I look like a Furbie.

But when I get down to 20 mg, the bulk of the ridiculousness comes off and you just look like a cute-ish younger kid with round cheeks. Once you're down to like 5/2.5 give it a few months and you'll look pretty much normal.

and for the three years I was OFF prednisone entirely (during my Tysabri days) I had the most amazing cheekbones EVAAAR of my adult life. And I had real muscles on the rest of my body. And a tan. It was awesome.

Sigh. Miss those days....I've been on since Feb 2011 and I'm just ITCHING to get off it too.

My son has the moon face. He is sure hoping it will go away. This is his first time on steriods.The steriods have made him gain about 20 pounds. He is a little shorty like me so you see every pound he gains. But his face and chin looks so different since he has been on the steriods. It doesnt look like you are looking at the same little boy :(

I feel ya. Before i started steroids this time i actually thought that i was an attractive young man (got a nice photo on my drivers license which is positive )
Depending on what age your son is , some kids are really chubby in the face , me myself as a kid was pretty chubby but then again steroids doesn't make that chubbyness that are pretty :(
Since your son is a kid it will fade much more and faster than on a adult.

When I was on 40 and 30 mg, my face was very chubby, had huge cheeks to the extent that my eyes became narrow. When I went down to 20 and 15, things became better. I stayed on it for one year and a half. Now, I am 3 months off pred, thanks God, and I have my normal face again, it is round with visible cheek bones. So, don't worry, you will regain the same face 100%. The only thing that happened to me apart from hypertension was some fact collections in my legs below the knees but these fat redistributions do not bother me as they did not affect my outer appearance as I am already tall.

I have been on Predisone long term. At 20mg with steroid injections, I had a full moon face..When i went down to 5mgs-10mgs it did drastically improve..I have a picture on high doses of predisone at one of my son's high school graduation I don't even recognize myself..I gained a huge amount of weight w/predisone which did not happen before..?? The fat collections I have in places I did not have in before..below my knees is depressing..I am having a problem with yeast infections of the skin and lymph node infections on my legs currently..My last blood work just shows a free flowing fat content in my blood..I wonder if this is what has caused the fat collections, and I hope to be completely off the stuff for it all to go away at some point..

Im glad to hear that i was a lil bit concerned that there will be skin left from the moon-face ?
You in remission since u quit pred ? :-D

Okay i have no knowledge about injections but 20 mg is the same dose as if u took pills ?
Really hate my moon-face right now since it gone down my neck . Your side-effects doesn't have to be the prednisone tho .. I guess u got other meds too ?

I was on the a high dose oral then tapered to 20mg at that time along with steroid injections--I was also getting antibiotic injections rocephin.. along with avalox & flagyl pills..Within a few weeks, I was drastically improved..I have been on 10mg,7.5mg, and 5mg for the long haul and ended up on blood pressure and thyroid medication. My blood pressure went through the roof along with my thyroid quit working from the predisone..I still am swollen, with weight gain, and have fat deposits in my upper back, knees, and ankles..My face is puffy but not a full moon face like with the injections & pills stent..My doctor at the time was RA, and I think this affected his decision of treatment..
