I had Fissure during pregnancy. After C-section delivery, I went to see a doctor. He said I need to have colonoscopy. After colonoscopy, I felt that I can not control gas (anal incontinence) and then it turns to bowel incontinence. I refered to a surgeon. He said my sphincter muscles and nerves were damaged during colonoscopy. Anyone have the same problem? Please help. cry

I would definitely get a second opinion. And I would see a gastroenterologist rather than a surgeon.

But meanwhile I would request a copy of the entire colonoscopy procedure including nurses' notes and anesthesia/sedation.

I would think it more likely that the fissure has something to do w/any sphincter muscle/nerve damage than a colonoscopy but you might just as well find out what if anything occurred during the scope.

I'd also be inclined to request a copy of the entire C-section delivery as well, again including nurses' notes, anesthesia, etc.

I have visited by 2 doctors, and both said that in very rare cases something like this happen. But the surgeon who did colonoscopy refused to give me a copy of colonoscopy and said it has nothing to do with that.

I am sure it is not from Fissure, because it healed by itself without surgery. It has nothing to do with C-section as I did not have any problem after that for 6 months before colonoscopy (I had 2 anoscopy and 1 colonoscopy)

I asked my doctor to send me to the gastroenterologist but he said I need to see a general surgeon or colorectal surgeon.

They need to do more examines, like ultrasound and manometry. But I am afraid to do more tests to get it worse. Please help.

Where are you located, Anabela?? Are you in the United States or elsewhere?

So it was a surgeon who did your colonoscopy and not a gastroenterologist?

I can only suggest and advise you what to do here in the USA. I don't know the laws, etc. in other countries.

However, the very fact that the doctor who did the colonoscopy refuses to give you a copy of the procedure report implies some guilt or knowledge of error during the procedure to my way of thinking.

If you are in the US, then you can contact medical records where your colonoscopy was performed and request the records. You don't have to get it from your doctor's office. I don't know about other countries. Good luck with everything. I definitely think you should look at the records

Thank you for your comments. They have done it in a clinic where he works. He himself prepare the reports, so he may not mention all his mistakes.
I live in Canada and almost newcomer. Here it seems nobody wants to help.
It takes 6 months for me to see a specialist. I am crying everyday and feel depressed.
