Trying to figure out average in between re-sections

So, I had first re-sections in 2006. Fairly close together because well...that's a long story! Anyway, was wondering how long people have gone in between re-section surgeries. I know it will probably vary but was curious! Thanks for posting!

Bloody hell. Four resections in one year??

Funnily enough, I watched Holby City - a lame medical soap opera (sorry, drama) set in an NHS hospital - for the first time in months the other day and it featured a Crohn's patient who'd had nine resections. It sounded like an awful lot to me. Anyhow, an experimental 10th operation was tried on the chap; it went wrong and he died. Another Crohn's patient died in Holby last year, too...

Going back to me, I may be facing my first resection soon enough; along with the colon too (hopefully, dare I say). I'd be in category 2, no doubt.

I had my first re-section in 06 and well 12 hours after surgery it came apart! Surgeon didn't attach it to healthy enough tissue I guess...So, I was in ICU for ten days and another surgery. We really don't here it here often but...it is a serious surgery and mistakes sometimes happen. Looking back I wish they would have just taken more out he first time. Good Luck to you!!

yep, i had problems with healing and such that year after my strictureplasty failure in '99. every time they had to go in to fix a leak or reconnect my jujenostomy, they had to take out more guts.. hence my name ...:O).. on one, there was 2 in one week! and in '99, there was 2 in 4 days.. but counted as 1 each .

Maybe Heather it would be more accurate to ask "how often have people had resections without complications" because yours and Randy's cases are clearly not common (thank God!!).  It's not every day that a resection comes apart and requires multiple surgeries to repair it.

I have noticed that surgeries tend to get closer in time...the first 2 are longer apart then after that the next one is closer....not just with me but others also.

I had my first resection in July 2001 and fortunately haven't had one since.

flowery, i was in the hospital for over amonth after coming apart. i wasin a induced coma for about a week on a respirator. woke up with a jujenostomy. had to learn to walk again after that month . needed help just to sit up. was very bad off for the next year. with the total of 5 operations in 9 months. had sepsis twice. gangrene, . too bad my website was lost or you could see the photos of me during that time.. ;o)

I have had one resection. I think it does vary widely person to person. Back in the day when I had my resection the surgeon told me should be good for 7 - 10 years. My other doctor's were not happy he said that - there should be no time limit put on it and no guarantees. Anyway that was in 1998 and it has been 13 years now and NOV of this year will make it 14 years. I just take it day by day that is all I can do cuz I still have symtoms just not to the extreme when I needed the resection.
