Anyone ever feel like Crohn's bloats your stomach (from gas or maybe inflammation) and it makes it stick out more than it usually would?  I've felt this way for a couple of weeks and I'm late on my Remicade infusion (due to insurance changes) and I just wondered if anyone else gets this.  I feel so blah!

Yes, constantly.

It was better when I was more underweight (BMI 16-17). Even then I never had a dead flat stomach, but these days jeans I've had for years are a tight fit. It's all the stomach, too, as my arms, shoulders and chest are still fairly boney.

As you said, I think it's from gas and inflammation. I would love a cure for it, but don't think there is one :-/

Yes I have also the same problem. Everything else is skinny but the abdomen is bloated! I hope this helps you!

I have the same thing.. and LOL the docs have told me that you don't get bloating with IBD (I'm still in the diagnosing process).. PMSL! I seriously wish they'd talk to people with IBD instead of just their textbooks!

Yes I'm 5-9 and only 108lbs and still loosing. When my stomach bothers me I do notice my lower stomach gets bigger than normal. Of course I'm skinny so no one notices but I notice. It reminds me when I was in early stages of pregnancy.

oh thank goodness. I am new to this and was thinking something else was going on. My stomach is contsantly bloated and hurts to the point that i have had to wear yoga pants so that they have some stretch to them. Sux!

Hi there,
Yes the Doctors need to start learning what their patients are really going through instead of assuming that they know. I had to tell my Doctor that people with Crohn's don't absorb Vitamin D because of inflammation. This is the reason why I can consume up to 2000 IU of the stuff and still have a very low level. I discovered this informatiion whilst reading a book in Indigo Books of all places!! So it comes to something when neither your regular Doctor nor your Specialist knows! I have come to the conclusion after all my experiences that they have NO CLUE as to Nutrition and the actual needs of a Crohn's patient. They are just not taught it!
One has to be aware that bloating could be caused by a back up of food within the digestive system. Which means it could be caused by inflammation inside or an actual bowel obstruction. You will soon know if you have an obstruction for you will eat less and less food and then you will end up vomiting and experiencing lots of gut pains! That is the time when you call for the ambulance!! I've been there and done that.
If this doesn't happen then NOT TO WORRY, but take some digestive enzymes and some good bacteria such as yogurt or kefir. When it takes a longer time for the digestive system to move things through it you can have a sort of fermentation process going on inside. Enzymes help to break down the food better and the good bacteria helps keep the bad bacteria in check, so you will have less gas. Bloating is still an issue though for people like us!

I think the CCFA should have something on their site about this also for others to read as well. See if you have been diagnosed with anything else on there too, because I have! Someone else had posted this earlier but Sorry I can't remember who it was! It was on the posting that Ithurtsbad had recently made under Crohn's! I hope this will help you in someway!

 I too have suffered with bloating and for quite awhile I looked like I was about 5 months pregnant, I also experienced severe abdominal pains and my stomach was hard as a rock.  I finally spoke to my doctor about this and he ordered a CT Scan.

In my small intestine, he detected about 12 inches of infection and scheduled me for a bowel resection which I had 3 months later.

Since I had my resection, (2007) I have not experienced any more bloating, only the usual Crohn's symtoms.

I am not saying that this would be the case for everyone, but it would probably be a good idea to talk to your doctor about the bloating so he/she can at least check it out for you.

Hope some of this info can help, I did not write it to alarm anyone, I just want to be honest about my experiences.

I have crohns and i constantly get asked "when are you due?" because my stomach sticks out and the rest of me is skinny...

Now that just SUCKS doesn't it! You could probably take something to lower the inflammation inside (slippery elm pills, prednisone etc.)so that things would move through you more quickly. If you are already getting a lot of gas take some digestive enzymes and some good bacteria also.
If you think it's MORE serious than that COMPLAIN to the Doctor/Quack!!! And I sometimes refer to Doctor's as Quacks because they often act like nincumpoops! My parents both used to work in the Medical Field: My Mother a Nurse and my Father a Medic and Orderly, and they both referred to some Doctors as Quacks! They said if you've seen what we've seen you'd end up calling them the same thing, and now by experience I have seen for myself what they are talking about! If your Doc doesn't help you find a better one! You want someone who is going to HELP YOU rather than pass you off!

Ugh, I getting bloating and gas allllll the time - but oddly it is only in the evenings.  My docotor explained that it is due to inflammation, and extra gas is produced to help move food through inflamed intestines.  I think the only cure in this case is something to reduce the inflammation (easier said than done, I know).
