It is so hard to get any help without insurence. This last doctor I saw referred me to a GA with the a diagnosis of "Diarrhea" pretty much ensuring this guy will never take my case. How about 10 years of unending bowel blasting, nausea rife hell? Hate doctors so much. Anyway once again I have taken it upon myself to seek out treatment, as the one thing I can get is a prescription. Any prescription. As long as I suggest it and no one has to think. I am thinking of trying an Antispasmodic. Has anyone had any experience with these? What did you take? Dosage? Side effect? I'm a little concerned about side effects as I seem to be extremely sensitive to medication these days.

I take --bentyl or dicyclomine, same drug first is the brand name, seconed one generic. 20mg. tab`s 45min. before I eat seems to help, there fairly cheap, might be worth a try?.

I take Bentyl also 4 times a day...can't really say if it's helping but I keep taking it just in case as the meds they're willing to prescribe me are fairly limited since I'm pregnant.

Good Day Illmissucat, I take an antispasmotic called Buscopan, it was one of the most important medications I have ever been perscibed.

Last year, I was taken by ambulance to the emergency room about 6 times, I was always admitted and ended up staying about 2 weeks.  The reason I was admitted, was so they could keep and eye on my  suspected bowel obstruction.

I would wake up about 5 or 6 a.m. with excrutiating pain around my navel, vomiting and diarrhea, the symptoms were the same every time.

After 2 weeks, I would be discharged and be home for 2 weeks and it would happen all over again. 

Finally, one of the GI doctors in emergency figured out that because I have so much scar tissue and adhesions, that my intestines were getting caught, anyway, he perscribed me Buscopan.

This medication changed my life, since I began taking it (one pill before I go to bed) I have not experienced that horrid pain again.  He also said that if I did wake up with the pain to take another one immediately, thank goodness that has not happened.

This medication has not not given me any side effects except that it makes me drowsy, which is not a problem since I take it before I go to bed.

I don't usually recommend perscribed medication, but this ended up being a great medication for me, it also staved off another surgery.

Muscle relaxers don't help me much. They only add to the constipation I have from bowel thickening. I have taken Bentyl like a lot of others but it didn't help much. I get some relief from flexeril, which is an antispasmodic. The only slightly distracting side effects I had were sleepyness but I got used to it after a while

I hope you feel better. There are so many more other GI diseases and even diseases not related to the GI tract, that can cause diarrhea & nausea. A few of my family members have horrid diarrhea after every meal & nausea. A friend of mine has kidney issues and her only symptoms were nausea, back pain & never ending diarrhea.

Hi there Crohnie's well I take Buscapan 10mg 2 ( 6 ) times a day and thy work great 4 the bowel spasms trust me mind u I have been on a great deal of meds now and had my disease since the last 24 years a super long ass time no pun intedented lol I hope this helps u in making a decision..

Ah, this happens to be a topic where I have some considerable experience...

I too have taken Buscopan. I don't take it regularly, and not sure if that would be a good idea or not. But if you've got an obstruction and thus are in severe pain, Buscopan can provide considerable relief.

If you are obstructed completely, you can't take anything by mouth - in that case, Buscopan can be injected. It doesn't need to be IV - under the skin is enough. I can inject it myself, and have had to do so a number of times. The relief it gives is almost immediate. Unfortunately, the effect lasts little more than an hour, and there is a limit on how many times you should take it within 24 hours - I wouldn't exceed six injections in a 24 hour period. Fortunately, most obstructions begin to relieve after that as long as you don't eat or drink anything.

Illmissucat didn't say where he/she lives, but as I understand it, Buscopan is not available in the USA. I have no idea why, because it's available almost everywhere else. The nearest equivalent in the USA is a drug called Levsin. In the USA, Levsin requires a prescription, but most countries that sell Buscopan do so over the counter (that includes the injectable form) - at least that has been my experience in three countries (Taiwan, South Korea and Mexico).

I was in the USA in 2008. I found that Levsin pills were inexpensive enough, but the injectable form (which is not easy to get) is just outrageously expensive, at least 30 times what injectable Buscopan costs here in Taiwan.

Thank you all. I'm not sure quite what is going on in there. I know I've had pain just above my belly button for ten years. Nausea, diarrhea, and am unable to gain weight. I've had to cut gluten out of my diet, caffeine, lettuce, and a number of random things but still the symptoms return. I take an omerprazole every night, though stomach acid is not really a cause more than just an irritant. And as of my first and second endoscopy several years ago, when I had insurance, my stomach is filled with mysterious bumps. Not quite polyps. Bumps. It was recommended I get them examined atleast twice a year but after my insurance ran out no GI doctor will touch me, even with a referral. I'M 26 and live in America, BTW. They don't sell much over the counter. I am trying to figure everything out on my own. I've been going to the health clinic for five years trying to get them to treat/diagnose/help me and they just give me another antidepressant and send me home. I really don't know what to do anymore but look for alternative remedies. Does anyone know of any natural antispasmodics? ...Besides marijuana. (Everyone keeps telling me to light up. LOL)
