I have an Illeostomy bag and it was suppose to be reversed after Remicade started healing my crohns, but I am having to stop the Remicade because it has made my symptoms worse.  I am scared now that they won't be able to reverse it.  My disease is located in the sigmoid area, by the rectum and throughout. I thought the doctor had told me that if they removed my disease that because of the area it is in I would have to have a permanent bag.  Does anyone else have the disease in this area and has had surgery to have it removed and if so did it help with fistulas and did you have to have a permanent bag?

hello, I had my sigmoid and half my rectum removed and don`t have a bag yet they said I`ll end up with one down the road..I wish they would have given me one at my last surgery, because I`ve had nothing but pain ever scence, before, during, and after a bowel movement.. most of my pain is from nerve damage, and just the damage from the crohn`s itself over the years, and when they re-routed what`s left of my colon, maybe 1/10-th.. left according to my GI.. It`s up to you but if your doing good with it.. will it be the same with the reversal.? I`m thinking about getting mine done sooner rather than later. so maybe I can get rid of my pain med`s they help the pain but the side affects are not want i want.. hope thing`s work out for you, good luck

forgot to say I do have a perianal fistula, it hurts for a couple of days then breaks open drains and closes back up with a skin tag then a few month`s later it does the same thing all over again..

Hi keepfaith...my husband has CD and his CD was pretty much all through his large intestines and very severe rectal disease. He's tried all the mess and just kept getting worse. In his last colonoscopy, the GI couldn't even get up past a few inches with a pediatrician scope because it was so bad. That is when they decided his best bet was to have his entire colon, rectum all removed. He was so sick, down to 106 lbs from 150 lbs...he was sick of being sick and wasting his life. So, 7 months post Ileostomy surgery, he's back up 145 lbs, enjoying food and life!

His fistulas are starting to heal...helps a lot when he's not going D 30 times a day. He had 8 seton bands in and his surgeon has been slowly taking one at a time out every appt. He's down to about 4 or so. He said he's having a lot discharge and lot less painful down there. He's still on humira for his fistulas. Dr wants him to continue until fistula is healed.

Thank u for the responses. I'm trying the makers diet next week in hopes that with me taking prednisone and Flagyl the next 3 weeks that I can have this ileostomy reversed and get into a study.
