Apparently, over-use of heating pads can cause erythema ab igne. I found this while trying to figure out what was going on on my abdomen. Mine looks exactly like this picture.

Here's some more info about it. Apparently, it can cause skin cancer over time.

OMG, that's awful...do those marks from it ever go away if you stop using a heating pad? Sometimes I'll use mine on my lower back when I get pain....I'll have to make sure I don't do it often.

If you stop in time, they will go away within a few months. Sometimes, it's permanent. I use my heating pad 8 hours a day, for the past year and a half.

YIKES!!!! I should be safe, I only use it for may half an hour and only when my lower back pain kicks in, which thankfully is rarely...I hope you'll be okay!

Thanks for posting this, Chrisnsteph. I looked up the Wikipedia page, which has more information and a few gross photos. It's definitely something to be aware of - I have used a heating pad at times.

Agreed. Thanks Chrisnsteph. I also use a heating pad for the pain and I had no idea there were potential problems with long term exposure. Good to know.

It also said something about women who were obsese had a greater risk of this in the article...can't imagine anyone with CD being overweight.....

IBDers come in all shapes and sizes....it's interesting that some make that assumption (having an IBD is an instant weight loss disease) but it doesn't work that way for all...metabolism still plays a huge roll (even for those with an IBD) in a person's weight.

Ohhhhh, PB4, I so hate to "pick on you" - forgive me - but your sig is a bit too long. "We" ask that sigs be no more than 10 lines long. Would you edit your sig a bit for us to bring it to w/in the guidelines, please? Thank you!

Perhaps it varies by monitor size, but I only see 9 lines in her sig.

Hi C2, I know you're not picking on me :) But I am within the 10 maximum including that one space that I have....I was careful not to go over cuz i figured I might have troubles with getting back to fixing it...sure enough, I was going to try to edit my sig once but couldn't (terrible with puters) but as far as I know, I'm with in the guidelines aren't I?

Hmmm, I just noticed, that one space at the top that I have is automatically done when you create a sig, so I'm definitely within the guidelines (I have 9 lines total with no spaces) I know that each space counts as a line and actually looked at
chrisnsteph1022 sig and with her spaces she has 13 lines (sorry chrisnsteph1022, I honestly wasn't trying to get you into trouble, or take the heat off me by putting it on you).
