Can anyone tell me about Imuren...the results...side effects  whatever you can tell me...I need to make a decision if I want to take this med or not...thanks...

Hi MsMac,

I have been on Imuran for some time now, and also on and off it for some time in my life. I am Crohn's lifer as I call it, I was diagnosed when I was 5... 30 now.

As far as side effects, I don't experience much if anything I attribute to the drug, and certainly nothing that is worse than my Crohn's symtoms. You will be warned theat it may affect your immunities. I don't get colds/flu's often or at all really. I sometimes notice certain things like acne, that take some time to heal.

I say if your doctor is recommending it, please listen. It truly is responsible to follow their recommended meds. You may see little to no relief from your Crohns symtoms, but Imuran is very much a preventative drug to help stop it from getting worse.

I think Imuran tends to reduce my overall energy level, but I am still able to exercise almost everyday on top of my part-time job plus sundry household chores. So it isn't like a huge slap to my stamina. Other than that, I agree with MoansOverCrohns (love the name :]) that the immune system is suppressed and it seems to me that illnesses are easier to come by and harder to get rid of. Mostly the harder to get rid of, though.

Thanks.....I have tried alot of different stuff...have so much inflammation and this has recently caused some blockages....so far no surgery except on exploratory..she seems to think this will be the best for me....have diarrhea 3+ times a day..you read all the side effects and scares you...

Hey MsMac63, as you can see in my signature I'm on a high dose of Imuran and have been for about 2 years now. It is a pretty good med in my opinion and has helped me manage my symptoms the best I can, the only 2 drawbacks I have is I am fatigued all the time (GI says its the Imuran) and I also get sick about 2-3 times a month and takes about 2 weeks to get over on average due to the suppressed immune system.

Hello MsMac63, I have been on Imuran for quite sometime. The only thing that has changed for me is that I am tired all the time and when I catch a cold it hangs around for ever. I still function OK. I work full time, and also have a part time job, go to school full time, and raising 5 kids. I try to keep hand sanitizer around, wash my hands frequently etc. I also get a flu shot every year. It helps. Good luck.

this is the first time for me to wright in this forum

I've been diagnosed having crohn's June 2011 and i'm on imuran 9 months ago , it really helps me alote the symptoms relived with almost null side effect but i had bad time with allopecia which is multifactorial as dermatologist said not only by imuran

any how i think i'm in the begining ,side effect may need time to show .
