I know you wrote in Feb., but I wanted to touch bases with you on your mother's condition. My Mom also has Crohn's disease with Cirrhosis and chronic HE. She was hospitalized with C-Diff and severe dehydration last Feb. This is when we found out about
how severe her liver disease was.
Her Hepa score is 93%, which means that only 7% of her liver is functioning. She began developing HE at the end of March and the Dr. prescribed Lactulose also. One day with that stuff caused the worse bout with diarhrea. She has been on the Rifaxamin(Xifaxin) since then. There is no improvement in my Mom's HE, however, she doesn't appear to have gotten any worse. Her Crohn's specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY said this drug should also help with the Crhohns.
So far, she has had pains in the stomach every morning with some loose bowel movements from time to time, but this seems to subside in the evening.
My Mom's condition is also complicated by being an insulin dependent Diabetic. Dr. claims this and being overweight, is what gave her the Cirrhosis. (she never drank a day in her life) The Liver Specialist said I should consider a nursing home and doesn't think she has long to live ( maybe a year or less). I was wondering what the Drs. are saying about your Mom and how she is doing now.
Please write back.....you are the only person I know dealing with both Cirrhosis and Crohn's.
