Hi all! I need your help!

I've been having this lower back pain every single day for the last 4 weeks. It hurts at night, in the morning, but also during the day. It's worse when I lie down (getting up after sleeping is quite painful) and seems better when I walk, although I can't stand standing up without moving/walking. I've tried diclofenac (voltaren) and naproxen, but they don't help much, plus they are hard on my stomach. I don't know what to do anymore and I wonder if it can be sacroiliitis or something related to my Crohn's. My CD is in remission at the moment (although I've been having more symptoms for a while now). So for those you have arthritis, AS or sacroiliitis, what are your symptoms? I wonder if I should just go see my GP or GI at this point. I just want the pain to stop!

How long have you been on 6mp,  it can be the 6mp causing back pain

Crohn's can cause joint pain, and a lot of that can be lower back pain. Please don't take naproxen. It's probably time to call your GI and talk about what's going on.

As you've seen, staying active can help you feel better. You might want to get a different mattress, since sleeping seems to be hardest. And you should go see a rheumatologist to talk about your joint pain and your concerns about sacroileitis. You might consider doing some physical therapy also.

I have sacroilitis related to crohn's disease.  I am mostly fine during the day other than some achiness in my lower back and hips. At night, I can lie down for about three hours and then I'm in the most excrutiating pain. My hips,low back and pelvis hurt so bad. A deep aching burning pain usually.  So, the pain upon resting is a hallmark symptom of sacroilitis.  You need to see a rheumatologist and have an xray of your pelvis.  Sorry you are dealing with this, I haven't had a good nights sleep in the last two and a half years.

@carmen: I've been on 6mp for 10+ yrs. I doubt this is the cause of my back pain ...

WantRelief: what do you take for the sacroiliitis? anything that helps at all with the pain?

Violette Rose, there is no medication to take for back pain that is safe for Crohn's, unless you want to try narcotic pain relievers. It is a much better plan to go see a rheumatologist, figure out what's going on in your back, and develop some strategies for dealing with it, such as exercise and stretching.

I have had chronic SI pain for almost 30 years and it definitely waxes and wanes with my bowel issues. This is an integrated problem - if you can get your Crohn's under better control, your back will probably feel better....if you can build excellent core strength, your back will feel better....but if you have ankylosing spondylitis, you probably need to change your meds....this is something you need to discuss with a rheumatologist.

Violette Rose, unfortunately nothing I have done gives me much relief from the sacroilitis. I did twelve weeks of physical therapy, I've had two sets of steroid injections into my SI joints to no avail. The only thing that helps is to get out of bed and start moving around. However, at 2 or 3 am this is not the optimal choice when this occurs night after night and you are just exhausted. Tylenol with codiene offers some relief along with a muscle relaxer. My crohn's disease is under control at the moment and does not seem to strongly correspond with my back issues.
