Acyclovir for Crohn's Disease ???

I was recently reminded of a post I read in another Crohn's forum some time ago.

The person had mild to moderate Crohn's and was encountering some symptoms of disease activity. His/her doctor gave him/her some acyclovir tabs to take for a cold sore and his/her Crohn's symptoms disappeared. He/she could only find a couple of short articles in the research literature regarding herpes virus and CD. The last this person posted he/she was still taking acyclovir w/excellent results.

I wonder why we don't read of any research into this? Maybe the antivirals are getting too cheap to make the research worthwhile? Ach! I'm such a pessimist.

Yeah, same - I take Valtrex as needed when I feel a cold sore starting and never notice a difference in my symptoms. Everyone is different though!
