GI called this morning with results of CT Scan I had done on Friday due to severe abdominal pain.  Results of CT Scan revealed huge area of inflamation along with an abscess at the  terminal ileum where my crohns is present.  Started me on Cipro along with Entocort.  As well as I am already on Pentesa and Imuran.  

Seems as if things keep getting more complicated.

Sorry to hear that you have so much going on inside.  I hope the Cipro works quickly and that you feel better soon.  Any plans to discuss a future change in meds with your GI?  Seems like the Pentasa and Imuran are not keeping your Crohn's in check....

I have been on Pentesa for two years and felt pretty good actually.  After colonoscopy the end of June I was put on Imuran so I haven't been on that very long.  But after this CT scan GI is thinking we need to go straight to Remicade or Humira to start treating the crohns more agressively. 

Thanks for the encourangement, I hope all goes well also, seeing how I am suppose to go on vacation in a week. confused

I think I would agree with your GI about the biologics.

I hope that the Cipro gets working fast and that you feel better for your vacation! Be sure to talk to the pharmacist about any potential side effects of the abx before you go away.

I would just like to recommend that you monitor this very closely. The usual treatment for this is a CT guided drain line. Due to the hard exterior of the abscess, often times antibiotics won't work. 

Discuss this with your GI, and if you aren't feeling better soon, then perhaps you should consider this treatment.

Do NOT do a CT guided drainage for the abscess!!!  They do not work, and I speak from experience.  Your abscess needs to drained and cleaned out in an OR by an experienced colorectal surgeon.

Is it a general"rule" that all abscesses need to be drained / cleaned out. If so why did GI put me on Cipro. I apologize for all the questions but all this is new to me. Thanks for everyone's input.

Mine never does...when I have one I call my surgeon...my gi isn't even in on my treatment plan when there are abscesses/fistulas involved. My surgeon will usually put me on flagyl after he drains it for a few days. You were probably put on it in case it ruptures?? Just my guess. Abscesses are nothing to mess with. If it does rupture, you could go septic and that is life threatning. Not trying to scare, just letting you know not to mess around with them.
