I got lucky for 8 years. Had just D ( and one bleeding) until my resection surgery.

Now I'm back on it again, and very positive.

so you can take it long term...glad you had good luck with it...did you have any side effects? were you diagnosed with celiac disease too?

I don't take Imuran, but I have a firend that has been on it for years. She is quite happy with the results.

ps: OT----would your Bruins please take one of my Habs free agents. I am hoping for a trade of Subban because he plays too dirty to be a Canadien - more like a Bruin of old hehehehe.

Sure, the Bruins will take anyone physical!!!! LOL...42 days and counting to pre-season turn wink smilewinkgrin

I had some nausea in the first week, taking 150mg.

Take it with meals.

You are going to be more vulnerable to yeast and flu.

I don't recall her having any significant side efffects since I have known her.  I met her after she had already been on it a year.  They just do blood work often so if you call having to go get blood drawn a side effect......

I'm on it along with weekly Humira, low dose prednisone, Entocort, and Allopurinol and just found out my levels were low (not in the therapeutic range to be able to help) and just started flaring bad so my Dr. upped the dose to 75 mg. I really hope it helps soon because I can only eat white bread and chicken soup at this point... it sucks so bad! Good luck!

I have had very, very, very good luck with Imuran! Started it five years ago, 150mg ... Now down to 50mg per day :) Apart from slowly lowering the WBC count, all is well!

Imuran hasnt worked for me as of yet - dont really have any side affects either...maybe heating up a little....

been put back on entocort and will try again to see if the imuran holds.....

entocort is great - took most symptoms away for me... increased energy.... crazy appitite though.... your spouse or kids will have to shelter their food from you at the dinner table lol

Hi Deakin, can I ask you a question? You don't have to answer if you don't want to but do you have insurance that helps pay for your Entocort? I have a crappy COBRA plan that isn't major medical and I went to get the prescription filled at Walmart pharmacy and they told it was $700 to $800 for a 30 day supply. I went back to my dr and he gave me a month of samples for now. There is no way I could even think about paying that amount of money for pills. Any suggestions on some help paying for that? Thank you!!

Yes my work pays 90%.... I could give you a one month supply if you could come to Toronto...

Hi Deakin thank you so much for the thought about the pills. I wouldn't be able to get up there though. Thanks so much that was really nice of you. I have been very fortunate when it comes to this disease. I have only had one resection and haven't been on any medication since early 2000's. And now it is rearing it's ugly head again. So the Imuran hasn't done much for you?

I came off entocort Jan 2012 and right away I flared bad.  then it calmed a bit.  seemed like I flared every 3rd day.  this went on for 4 or 5 months.

The doc didnt think I was on the imuran long enough the first time.  so im back on the entocort again.  so I come off it again soon.

I dont think it is going to work this time.... the GI is talking about remicade.... which i dont know much about....

I may have a bladder fistula - so I have heard remicade heals fistulas... so may be a good thing....

He's even talked about a resection - but I would rather keep what I have if i can...  worried things wont work right if they start hacking away at me...

So you had a resection?  and you had no symptoms for 12 years?  that was great... too bad that it has come back..  did it come back in the same area?

Yeah I had a resection in 1999 and have been good for the most part. It has returned to the same spot where the small and large intestine meet. I have been pretty lucky and I hope I can get this inflammation down so it won't lead to other things! I wish I didn't have to take this Entocort at all. It's just way to expensive. The Imuran is cheap so I am hoping that will work and if I need to stay on it I won't have to worry about the cost.

So you don't eat anything dairy? My first GI dr told me I needed to give it up but there is no way...I don't drink much liquid and milk is my favorite!!! That would be a tough one!

I have been on imuran off and on since 2004. I have not had many side effects to speak of. Some hair loss. Thats it really, if you call losing your hair thats it ha. It works well but does not give me total remission, but keeps me "good enough" if you will. Hope it helps you out

Ya no Dairy - but I have always suspected the intollerance.  its funny - looking back before the DX - there was a few hints of crohns.  There is 3 of us cousins that have it and one 2nd cousin going for tests. Pray that my two kids dont get it.

Thanks you guys...dr called this morning said my blood work looked good for being on Imuran for a week and a half now...going to test again in a week and he may increase dosage...
