If you have UC, I personally would recommend giving surgery serious thought. You mention a 'plethora' of meds, so I presume you have tried most or all of the conventional drugs going, in which case medication is probably not the solution for you. There are essentially two, quite different, other paths you can take: surgery or alternative therapies - such therapies include diet, supplements, faecal transplant (don't ask), LDN, etc. On the UC board, they're very fond of their natural diets and alternative therapies, and you will get plenty of info and support there.
If the alternative route does not appeal or does not work, that leaves surgery. Honestly? It would be my first option if I had UC. Surgery basically cures UC, plus you have the option of having a j-pouch instead of an external bag. If you go to the Ostomy forum, there is nobody there who regrets having surgery; most say it gave them their life back. Anyway, I would at least consider it!
I hope this helps to give at least a little hope that things can change.
