When I was in high school I also attended vo-tech and that required a bus ride there and back. I always dreaded it, as we all know, fear of the diarrhea and me having to rely on situations out of my control. mtgman, can you a pull a fast one maybe the Friday before the outing? We've all lied our way out of situations we're not comfortable with, it sucks no doubt but some times a necessary evil.

Bruinsfan, the situation I discussed previously with a director, manager, HR manager and the contesting of my unemployment, they were corresponding in emails to figure out a way to fire me. I saw their email communications and what their plan of attack was against me. I work in IT and I had administered their email server, that's why I began to print out everything they were doing to me and printed out the email from the HR manager with her plan to fire me.
Good luck with the unemployment, sounds like you will get it, thankfully.

I also found out an interesting tidbit about my disability situation. The insurance company made me file for SSDI via a third party, which meant I couldn't retain an attorney in my disability case. When I say they made me file for SSDI via a third party, it was file with the assistance of the 3rd party company or I would no longer receive my monthly disability benefits from the insurance company. It is very common to be denied SSDI on the first application, I had been advised today by an SS attorney that the appeal process for SSDI can last 18 months.
So between an ERISA appeal case (receiving disability insurance through your employer) that can last 6 months, one also can endure up to 18 months to get an SSDI case reversed/approved.

Sorry to say it and never wanted to believe it but yes, it truly is. Bottom line is money and profits, being ill or disabled is a very bad place to be.

I don't know if it's because I live in NYS, or because I'm a county employee, but I was blessed with a wonderful boss when I started 20 years ago. Before my first year was up, I had a major flare and was hospitalized and missed 9 weeks of work. 10 months later I had surgery and missed another nine weeks. Although I did not get paid, not even disability, I was offered a promotion the week before I returned to work. I was shocked and told my boss so. She was so sympathetic and supportive. She was my boss for 18 years, and when she retired, she was replaced by another woman who is also very cooperative - or maybe it's the FMLA. Either way, I feel blessed after reading some of your posts. I don't understand how some companies can get away with that crap - the ADA is federal. Believe it or not, sometimes it can help to enlist the help of your Congressman or Senator. They have helped people I know with medicare & medicaid problems. Who know what they can do if they are asked. Just a thought . . .

I am very glad that you have and have had some very understanding employers!!! I wish I could say the same for Iowa. You sound like you have had a rough going of it too. I hope you are feeling better now wink

Hi there oldcrohnie, I'm very glad to hear you've had understanding bosses, that's great.

You're definitely right and I agree 100% about people reaching out to their Congressmen and Senators. When I contacted the Governor's office, I now have the ongoing investigation of the insurance company but also the woman I spoke with had advised me if I didn't hear from SS with a decision within 45 days, to call her back and she would contact them.
ERISA is a Federal law, everyone in the nation can and should be making an effort to bring attention to the practices of the insurance companies. However, some times we aren't aware of these situations until we're directly affected by them, such as my case. If someone had brought it to my attention at anytime, I would have fully supported them, signed a petition, sent letters to our constituents, whatever I could do to help. The moral compass of corporations is just so far off course.
I consider myself to be politically active, not affected by a politician having an R or D next to their name and always remember that they work for us, we don't work for them.
A very big problem we have as a nation is Crony-Capitalism, corporations having politicians paid off and also lobbyists.

When it comes to work and having Crohn's disease, I never want someone to feel sorry for me, I just hope that they would have an understanding. That's all I ask for.

nah no way i can lie my way out of this one...i may be able to come up with some creative excuse as to why i need to drive alone...that's as good as its going to get. i'm in AZ so if employer wants me gone they say "good bye" and there's not a thing i can do. i think i will need to sit down with my sr mgmt and say something. i really dont want to but i don't see how i can avoid it any longer. *&^%!

Well I New to all of this, what does anti body over 8 mean?

Remicade and memory loss and a few other things. I read about the side effects and then having to deal with the management. You guys are made of steel.

My employer has been great! I have told my boss and big boss and most of my team and closer work friends. Since 2009, i have missed 14 months of work. During that time I have still been paid bonus money and stock options (albeit at prorated levels). recently I came back from 5 months of disability (returned in may) and was offered a less stressful job, same pay, same office and less travel. They seem to want me to keep working if I can. But more importnatly the leadership is very supportive. I have told them I cannot travel more than a few days every other week and they support me when I say I cannot travel. When I do travel with team, they always check to make sure I am ok or can find rood that agrees with me. BTW, I work for a major company with over 250,000 employees so the policies and support is much more in favor of the employees And my HR rep has RA and takes some of the same meds we do so she gets it.

Wow mirowpl, that's awesome to hear. A glimmer of light in what's been a rather dark discussion about Crohn's and the work environment.
I wish all bosses could be so understanding to people who are ill.

im only a temp at my job and i have been there for bout 10months ive had over a month off work due to my crohns and they havent fired me yet, tho they have asked me to reduce my hours from 40hrs a week to 30 which has been really great for me coz i was getting so worn out doing 9 hours shifts,im honest with my employees about being sick and i find that much easier i explained to them that all the meds im on have side effects and that most of them take a while to work.I think they have been incredibly nice too me when they could of easily terminated my contract as its only a temp assignment.

hey mitch; had to chime in, I would go to hr first. listen I was horse jockey, rode 18yr's in the closet. until I had to have resection, then I only lasted one more year, last resection made me to weak to ride in a profession that was physically extreemly demanding, my legs were to weak to ride at that high of level. then I got a job in a casino as a card dealer,waited 1yr 1/2 to go on fmla, but my bosses hated me for that, took them 3 1/2 yr's to find me making a adding mistake, they fired me, but I was always an artist, so I do my artwork and am on ssdi, we put our art biz in my wifes name. mitch I would tell them, knowing you and your condition, you are exceptional worker, extreemly smart. they will understand. tell them hiding is making it worse,(probably is)

I live in New York too. Won't beat a dead horse but my hubby is on SSD, I tried to get on SSD, but we make too much as a couple to get medical (medicare yes but it won't cover everything, medicaid no) so here I am working a job that is killing me, very busy on my feet as a nurse all day long the staff fights, the Docs are nasty to you, paying 600 a month for COBRA, If I am out sick I will not get paid. I'm screwed..... I hate my life I sometimes wish I were dead....
