Yesterday's scope showed hemorrhoids. I have always suffered from anal fissures and proctitis and know how to deal with them. Is having hemorrhoids different? I was just shocked when my GI told me, though I have seen two colorectal surgeons recently and they couldn't discover anything, that I have hemmies. Do hemmies cause severe rectal pain that wakes one up and external swelling or is this caused by proctitis?
How do you deal with them?

I've had hemorrhoids for over 30 years. They have caused me pain on occasion but not anything I would classify as severe. The pain from an anal fissure was a lot worse for me than anything my hemorrhoid caused. First, I try not to ever strain when I have a BM. That causes my roids to swell and become bothersome. I use a steroid ointment that comes with an applicator. The applicator helps get the ointment to the internal roid. Keeping external hemorrhoids clean is important to keep them from becoming irritated. I use moistened towellettes [Cottonelle] to wipe after having a BM.

Ides, thank you very much for telling me how to deal with roids. I never thought that anal fissures are worse. Well, I became confused and can't tell whether the cause of the severe pain is that of fissures, roids or proctitis. I think I'll use proctosedyl suppositories as applying ointments inside might irritate the proctitis until the biopsy results come out.

high fiber diets are anathema to people with Crohn's. Can you use things like preparation H for internal hemmorrhoids? What about sitz baths?

A sitz bath is *perfect* for hemorrhoids. Three or four inches of water and a cup of epsom salts works wonders for mine. It brings blood to the area to help promote healing. My doctor also told me to keep the area as clean as possible, maybe use slightly wet TP or baby wipes for awhile.

How do you deal with them?

I am sure sitz baths are effective since they helped me with my perianal abscess which is much more serious than hemorrhoids.

Dear all, thank you very much. I really appreciare it. This post was almost 7 months ago. Roids are not my problem any more. I have now more important problems like proctitis and gastritis. I can't find a cure for either. When this rests down, the other pops up again and vice versa. You are def right sitz baths and roid ointments are the perfect treatment for hemmies.
