fatty liver

Anyone here have a fatty liver along with CD? I was wondering how common it is with CD, and what you all do for it. I go in oct to have a ultersound of my liver. My liver function test show something is not right, they think I have a fatty liver.

I have Fatty Liver but my liver function is normal. Mine was found on a Cat Scan.

I too have fatter liver, for about 8 years.

I can no longer drink alcohol without becoming unwell.  I also had a problem when taking the drug azathiroprine.  It affected my li8ver and I was jaundiced.

Liver problems are a common side effect or 'extraintestinal lesion' (EIL) of IBD. Milk thistle might help. This is from "Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine" by Michael Murray and Joseph Pizzorno, page 594.

"Serious liver disease (i.e. sclerosing cholangitis, chronic active hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc.) is also a common EIL, affecting three to seven percent of people with IBD. If individuals are demonstrating liver enzyme abnormalities, they should take silymarin, a group of flavonoid compounds derived from milk thistle (silybum marianum). These compounds exert tremendous effect on protecting the liver from damage as well as enhancing detoxification processes."

I was told I had a fatty liver a year ago based off an ultrasound, however I was just diagnosed with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis last week. PBC is another autoimmune disease, lucky me. This year my AMA was high on a blood test so another ultrasound was performed. The ultrasound showed an enlarged portal duct from the liver to the gallbladder. The final diagnosis was confirmed with a liver biopsy.

Fatty liver disease is very common in this country so don't let the doctors just make this assumption, get more tests. PBC is a very serious disease leading to an eventual liver transplant but the early they catch it the sooner they can begin treatment to slow down the progression.
