Imuran and Alcohol

I currently take Imuran once a day, 50 mg and I weigh 160 lbs. I used to drink in college and drank the years past. I have slowed down but do go out to the bar once a week and have a beer or two. I was told by my GI that this is ok as long as I don't over do it. My General Practitioner didn't see a problem with it as long as I didn't go overboard since my dosage was so low. Now, when my Dermatologist found out I took Imuran and drank he had a conniption and started telling me I was going to kill myself and that one beer is too many. Anyone hear similar or get the "ok" to drink from their primary doctors?

Imuran is hard on your liver. So is alcohol, so that may be his concern. I wasn't told no alcohol because of the imuran, but was told by my doc that alcohol may exacerbate my symptoms. I do feel crummy a day or two after I have even one drink, so I've avoided it. Better safe than sorry, IMO. However, I'm 99% sure one drink won't kill you.

A lot of people have had one issue or another with it. I never had any side effects or issues to this day. Been on it going on 6 years now. Increases chance for lymphoma and melanoma slightly. Greater chance of infection but not a bad drug if it works for you.
