I have been loosing clumps of hair for about a month now. I started taking Humira about 2 months ago and I have loss about half of my hair. Is this happening to anyone else and how can I stop it ASAP? I am really thinking about not taking it anymore. Also I was on a high dose of predisone for over a year and I have been off it now for 2 month and still have the side effects. Will my hair on my face ever really go away or should I get my face waxed and will my moon face ever go away?

Hey!

I am on humira and have not experienced the hair loss so I hope someone else can answer that for you.

As for the pred, in my experience it will go away. I know it is hard to look in the mirror and feeling like you do not recognise yourself, but it needs time to get out of your system and get back to normal.  I would not wax.  After long doses of pred it always took a bit longer, but it did go away.

I have had the hair loss on my head. I had a huge bald spot right in the middle of the back. My PCP gave me multiple steroid injections into my scalp for about 3 months and all of the hair grew back.
Not sure about the facial hair things.

I would give a lot more time for the effects of Pred to wear off - a year is a long time to be on a high dose of that stuff. But, as far as I know, nothing - moon face, etc. - should be permanent.

Hair loss - sorry, I've never had that :-/ Many folks have, though, so if you do a site search (tip: add Crohn's into the search box to get mainly Crohn's forum results), some helpful topics should come up.

Are you currently in a flare? Hair loss can be due to lack of nutrients or stress, both of which are part of a Crohn's flare. You may want to look into a mulitvitamin. Folic acid helps with hair growth.

And yes, things go back to normal after you stop pred, may take a while though.
