For a time, I needed regular iron infusions, magnesium and potassium drips, and saline for dehydration. I've had a number of transfusions. The staff was very thorough each time. First, they took a sample of my blood for "type and screen." Even if they have your blood type on file, they must do this. There were always 2 nurses who double checked the blood, it's contents, my name, info etc.. During the transfusion they tok vital signs every 15 mis during the first hour and then less frequently. I never had a bad reaction. I had books, magazines, and tv acess. They fed me whatever meal--even in ambulatory out patient. I am eternally grateful for those transfusions and the care I received. I was so ill and it all helped tremendously. Best to you-- keep us updated.
