Got my offical diagnoses this morning from my Gastro I have Chrones

At first I was told it was UC by his partner but after reviewing my colonoscopy results he says its definatly Chrones. I do have a narrowing of Scar tissue that he is going to set me up with a surgeon so they can do a resection there but he said that wont be right away. At the moment I am on 1600 mg of asacol and 60 mg of prednisone he said what they try to do is get me in remission and try to keep me there are long as possible.

At the moment I am still in the hospitol came in with a hemoblobin of 5.7 got 2 units of blood got me to 8.3 and now even though I was bleeding from my colonoscopy I am 9.5 I am on TPN IV and clear liquids. not sure how long hope not to long taking prednisone Ive had it before for sinus inflamation and I eat a lot when I take it. I do feel a lot better already the pain in my intestines is gone and I have more energy but that could be the higher hemoglobin He said he thought I had, had this for quit a while due to the scar tissue this is what happans when your told you have IBS and then dismissed.

So I will probably be on here a lot.  I have a lot to learn I was given printouts of the differant meds they use. Im sure Ill have more questions as I go just want to say thanks to everyone that was talking to me before I was diagnosed.

Hey Mom2, sorry about the diagnosis and that you're feeling so rotten. I had to laugh, though, about eating too much with prednisone - I completely understand the feeling! Even if I'm completely stuffed, I still just crave eating. Hopefully your taper won't be too bad, but 60 is a high dose and with Crohn's you really want to taper slowly (I usually do 5 mg every 5 days at least). If you go too fast you'll flare up again and have to start all over again. It's worth it in the long run though to get into remission, although the side effects really can be frustrating sometimes.

Asacol isn't the most effective to control Crohn's, from what I understand. It didn't help me much - I had to take 4800 mg/day plus 75 mg/day of Imuran to only kind of have remission, and even then I had to use a mesalamine enema half the time and I would STILL flare up frequently. Finally it all caused acute pancreatitis and we switched me to Remicade, which seems to be going pretty well as far as I can tell now. I am NOT trying to discourage Asacol or have you switch or anything - just something to keep an eye on.

Remicade is really the best option out there for inducing remission and maintaining it. It's expensive, and takes a bunch of time out of your life for infusions, but there have been many studies showing that it's darn effective. Humira might be worth discussing, too, if you think you can give yourself a shot. Talk to your DR about both of these options and make sure you understand what the risks are. Ask someone to sit in the discussion with you and take notes, because it can get pretty complicated pretty fast.

I do like my GI doc hes great and very detailed. This morning he went over some of the medications with me with the possible side effect short and long term then he had the nurse print me out information on a lot of the drugs It was made clear to me by the nurse that remicade and that class of drugs is like Chemo I guess Is she right or wring that wrod kind of freaked me out. Im pretty willing to try anything Im not having any sied effect from the asacol ive had prednisone before but a much smaller dose for only 2 weeks for sinus problems. I have to admit I feel a lot better then when I first got here monday night and I actaully worked all day monday. I look forward to learning for ya'll im in the south so please forgive my lingo I didnt know what else to use in place of ya'll LOL

Ok thanks for clearing that up I was a little freaked out by that. Im already anemic I dont need any help with that Do any of you know if taking Asacol can turn your pee and poo orange?
