Dentists recommend Viroxyn for getting rid of cold sores quickly, but Bactine and Mercuroclear from Walgreens and Walmart have the exact same ingredients. I only just discovered this but other sites say Bactine and Mercuroclear work wonders. Check your medical ointments--you may have something that has Benzalkonium Chloride at 0.13% in it already! (I found Sally Hansen's "Zero Irritation Medicated Cream" at home and am trying it on a cold sore I have now--but Bactine & Mercuroclear are cheaper!)

VIROXYN: Active Ingredient: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.13% and Benzocaine (pain killer) 5% $45.00

2 oz MERCUROCLEAR Antiseptic Active: benzalkonium chloride 0.13% - first aid antiseptic, lidocainehydrochloride (painkiller) 2.5% - external analgesic. $2.62

5 oz BACTINE: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.13%, Lidocaine Hydrochloride (painkiller) 2.5%, Edetate Disodium, Fragrances, Nonoxynol 9, Propylene Glycol, Purified Water. $4.97

Hello SOOPER, I know I'm new here but, sometimes I have had some Good Dr.s who will let you in on little secrets of theirs. I was also getting cold sores almost weekly, one would come and go, and "WHOOP THERE IT IS" another one.
Back to the Dr., He suggested that I get some, "FOLIC ACID" take 1-2 daily. I was skeptical rolleyes
But I went out and got the stupid bottle, and don-cha-know,....He was right!!! I have not had a cold sore in over 4yrs..!!!!!! OH YA...it does work. Something soooo simple as that. I would ask Pharmacist if there are any drug interactions with all the Medications that you are currently on, before trying Folic Acid?

SOOPER, I lost my reply???? Oh, anw-who, I was getting cold sores for years, and my Dr. told me a little secret, "FOLIC ACID" YES...it does Work!!! I have Not had a cold sore in 4yrs.

Folic Acid 1-2 tab. daily I would check with your pharmacist for any drug interaction with any of your medications before taking? Hope this helps?
