flying with Crohn's question

My ex wife lives a few states away with my son. He is 6 years old and i am trying to fly him to me for a week but he is unable to fly alone. I talked to my ex wife to see if she would fly with him and I would pay for everything. She tells me she can't fly because of her CD because of the pressurization of flying.

My question is, is she blow smoke up my butt or is she being truthful?

Hello den3154, UMMMMM, How many states away are they? I don't know why she can't fly, unless she knows she will be very sick when it is time to fly? Does she have Anxiety issues with flying, that could exacerbate the CD?

I have Crohn's and have flown all over Canada, US and the Caribbean......and Wednesday I am flying to Germany and then onto France....7 hour flight from where I live.....

3 States, we live out in the Midwest. It's about 750-800 miles from each other. She has flow before she had CD and just recently went on a road trip with my ex in-laws.

It might be truthful for her condition; it's hard to say. :/ Some of us can fly well, others can't. Some of us flare so easily or are really not even ever in remission. It terrifies me to fly when I'm flaring because it is an awful, miserable experience.

I have flown from Houston to Las Vegas, Minnesota, Washington DC and all around the state of Texas with ZERO problems.

Yeah that's an ex-wife being an ex. She's just using it as an excuse as she's flown before without problems.

But you're in a tough spot as you really cannot accuse her; there are some Crohnie's who do have issues with this. Additionally, if she specifically cited the pressurization of airplanes as her issue, then it sounds like her has researched this in the past.

Hi there, maybe your ex is putting her CD as an excuse. I nearly died in April 2011, I travelled to Pakistan 8 hr flight exactly after 8 months.
if her CD disease is under control it shouldnt be a problem.

Sounds like smoke up your butt to me, but Crohn's is a very diverse disease. What bothers some people may not bother others at all. Since it looks like there's some research suggesting this is a thing, I'd say you're probably better off not making a big deal out of it if you can avoid it. Got any friends or family who live near her and wouldn't mind a trip up to visit you? Or maybe, if you don't have time to make the flight out there yourself, someone could fly out there and pick him up for you? Maybe grandparents? I know my parents would be willing to do something like that for me if I were in your situation, especially if I could pay for it.

Stress causes flares, so if she is stressed with flying it could cause her to flare. Stress causes my bowels to go nuts, so I could see the fear of flying and possibly crapping all over yourself in flight if someone is in the bathroom. It's not real fun to be next to a sick person on a plane. Thing is CD can behave one day and be a mess the next. Mine seems to be a mess when life is disruptive with something out of the norm (like a flight to see your ex). Good luck - I hope you get to see your son, but give her some slack too, it's a rough disease to deal with.
