Still concerned that my son might have CD

Hi there, I got my son who was 14 then, now 15, to have blood tests to detect if he has CD, because he has had loose motions since he was nearly 6 yrs old, even though he aint lost weight, but he has back pain and stomache pain and light streaks of blood sometimes in his poo. He was fine until a holiday to Pakistan. I have always been worried about my son. I had him checked out once, they said his blood tests and stool sample was fine. I have been more worried since I was diagnosed with CD. 9 months ago they said his blood tests didnt show any signs of CD, and he was gaining weight too. The Dr's didnt perform a colonoscopy, because they were satisfied. The Dr said it was fast transit. what is that ? mad

Tht just means its traveling through his digestive system quickly.

I would try not to worry as much I'm sure if your son had crohns there would be some indictators in his blood test, and just because you have been diagnosed isn't to say your will be too.

Just keep and eye on him and try not to stress you'll make yourself unwell!

Dear Novice, thanx for your a reply. I actually felt better, by reading your comment. I cant find some information on fast transit that can explain the symptoms and problem properly, and whether it can cause or develop into any other illness. I worry for him cause since 5yrs he has stopped having breakfast, before going to school, beacause it causes him to go toilet.
Also that blood test dont always detect CD. My blood tests never showed N E thing ever.

The blood tests are not always accurate. But honestly, the point at which you would seek treatment for your son is when his issues negatively affect his life. He is gaining weight and growing. Is he terribly bothered by fast transit? You mention that he skips breakfast because otherwise he has to use the toilet before school. It is important to eat breakfast before school in my opinion so this is something you can work on with your son and with your Dr. Most humans have a morning bowel movement and it is very common for eating to trigger bowel activity.

Here are some ideas.

Get him up earlier so he can have a good breakfast and have time to use the toilet before school.

Change what he is eating for breakfast to something that will not trigger his bowels, or change what he is eating for dinner the night before.

Fast transit is a fairly common thing, eg people with IBS who have loose stools, for example. The opposite, slow transit, leads to constipation. Neither can cause, or are predictive of, other diseases at all. Crohn's is a quite separate condition, which, while it targets the intestines, is actually an immune system response. Now, as the son of a parent with Crohn's, your son will unfortunately have a slightly increased chance of getting Crohn's himself, but it is slight. Statistically speaking, he is still incredibly far more likely to go his whole life without getting Crohn's than getting it.

For now I would assume that your son doesn't have Crohn's or it's very unlikely that he does. Crohn's tends to present severely in children and teenagers, so if your son had had it since five or six chances are it would have manifested more severely by now. But I agree with kazbern: avoiding eating breakfast is not a good idea. Even if he has to get up earlier to allow extra bathroom time, he should do it.
