Flu shot. What to expect?

Cold has been recurrent lately and all the cold meds irritate my stomach. So, my GI said I have to take the flu shot. I have never had one before. My sister told me that I might get some symptoms after being vaccinated. I read in the UC forum that sometimes it triggers the immune system which in turn attacks the colon and intestines. Is it the same w Crohn's? I know that both UC and Crohn's are autoimmune diseases and the only difference is the spreading of the disease and its penetration throughout the mucosa. I don't want to become sick these days. Enough for me my struggle w proctitis; no need to trigger my ileocolitis. Did anyone have symptoms after being vaccinated?

Got my first flu shot ever last Friday....no problems except a really achy muscle afterward and I had the itchy eyes they say sometimes happens.

I did happen to flare this weekend BUT that was already comming on and timing was purely coincidental.

I have had the flu shot for years now and I have NEVER had any issues with it or any side effects.  One year I even got 2 - one for the regular flu and one for the swine flu!

It is my understanding that if you get sick from it then the flu virus was alreayd in your system before you got the shot.

I got my flu shot last week, my arm was a little sore the next day, but that was it!

Are there any meds or med dosages we shouldn't be on to have the shot?

I know you can't have live vaccines with humira and infliximab.
Not sure if flu is live or dead? Or what....

Any ideas? Just had real bad flu hoping to get the shot next time and avoid all this lol

@Novice. I see from your signature that you are on Azathioprine. My GI told me that there would have been a contraindication had I still been on Imuran. I think you should check w your GI before you take the shot.
@Mom2Type1Jd: Why haven't you started your meds yet? Is there a reason for this? You must be suffering. I remember you were flaring a lot lately. Hope you feel better soon:)

Kazbern, thank you. I think I will have to take the pre-prepared syringe and this I think does not have any live viruses.
