Ways to help my 3 year old?...

Hello everyone. My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with Crohn's . He had an anal abcess in June and in September it still wasn't healed so I took him back to the Dr and found out it was a fistula. So he had surgery to open that up. 2 weeks after that surgery, another abccess showed up and he had a seton put in that one just 2 days ago. I'm really not even too sure what to expect from Crohn's. or how much pain, if any, he is in. I guess I'm just wondering what to expect and ways I can help him? Other complications that may come up? I have heard of Crohn's but never really KNEW about it until all these problems have come up with my son. Thank you so much for any help, suggestions etc..

I just had surgery done on a perianal abscess which also had a fistula which a draining seaton was put in. I am not sure exactly what he is feeling as each surgery is done differently based on each persons problems and the locations. I can say it is quite painful for the first few days but for me seems to be healing rapidly, a week and a half later I am managing with extra strength tylonal while working.

As Kazbern said, it would be good to know what meds he is on, I am sure they prescribed something for the pain for the surgery alone. As far as the Crohns pain, does he have active disease anywhere else that you are aware of at this point?

He will be your best source of information as far as pain, I find my surgery site gets irritated if its not thouroughly clean, any bits need to be gone. Sitz baths are amazing reliefs for the first bit.

Hi insertcoolname, my son was diagnosed when he was 7 and is now nearly 10. He too had an anal fistula which he had surgery on, his was treated with medical manuka honey and cleared up. Few months after his bum was sore again and was put on cipro and flagyl and it cleared too. We would never have known he had crohns apart from the fistula and some bloating as he has no pain, diarhoea etc. can get quite constipated tho so we give him movicol to keep things right. He was diagnosed after a colonoscopy, endoscopy and camera capsule and put on salofalk and 6mp and it seems to be keeping things under control. Hope things work out for your wee boy too, its such an awful condition especially when they so young. xx
