Strictureplasty or resection?

My Daughter had a colonoscopy about a week ago, which I had posted about earlier. We hadn't heard anything about the results, so I emailed the GI nurse today.

She won't give me any information, but replied that she will call my Daughter tomorrow afternoon to discuss the results.

I'm qutie worried, (big worrier), that her stricture is quite bad, as the scope couldn't penetrate the TI as a result. If that's the case, then I'm guessing a referral to a surgeon may be coming. I know I'm jumping to conclusions.

For anyone that's been in the same boat, would you opt for strictureplasty or resection? advantages/disadvantages of both. 

I have a 7mm stricture, also at the T.I. As clonehead said, it will depend on the doc. Normal size for that area is 15-20mm, but my doc said that he has had patients that seemed fine, only to discover on colonoscopy that they had only a pinhole left. He was of the opinion that you don't go for major surgery like resection unless there is a blockage or obstruction, as it is major surgery.

From my limited understanding of it, a lot will depend on what the stricture is composed of, in other words inflammation or scar tissue. If it is inflammation, they will try drugs. That won't work for scar tissue (like mine). Attempting to stretch it might be an option (again depending on the size of the opening) otherwise resection. I hope you and your daughter got some hopeful news!
