Fistula

I had surgery a year ago to have an abscess removed and then one came back in the same spot two months ago and ended up in the hospital twice to have it drained and treated. I should have went to my colo-rectal surgeon right away when it came back but instead just had a general surgeon at the hospital. When I felt it come back the third time in the last two months I went back my specialist and he knew what was wrong at the first visit and told me I had a colonic fistula and informed me that the plug was less than 10 percent successful and surgery creating an cannel from the anus to the opening of the abscess spot (the bottom of my bum) was the best and almost 100 percent successful. I expressed to him how I just wanted something performed to get rid of it so it would stop coming back. I have to say that he was right about not working for about two weeks after the surgery because due to the depth of the cannel and the stuff you have to deal with is awful. Whenever you have a bowel movement it comes out the cannel and you have to shower after to keep the area clean. The draining in my case is requiring me to wear a thin overnight pad and a 4x4 gauze that I change every time I use the restroom. It is painfull due to spot and I am not a big fan of pain killers due to them giving me headaches. My specialist has done a great job of answering all if my questions and I am optimistic that this will hopefully solve my problem. I do not have CD and my colonoscopy came back fine so I hope after the 3 months he told me it would take me to heal I will be done with all this.
