Hello-
So, this is my first offical post. I have read other posts and learned a lot from everyone. So, is my story. I have had UC for 10 yrs with a two year remission. The 8 years leading up to my remission, I tried every medication under the sun and nothing worked. Things I tried included every 5ASA, enemas, predisone, entocort, 6mp, remicade. My colitis affected my entire colon and I had spent some time in the hospital to get things under control somewhat.
My GI was plum out of ideas and sent me to see Dr. Present in NY. He recommended a cocktail that worked like a charm for 2 yrs. I am currently on Asacol HD, Sulfazalazine, & 6MP. For some reason the mixing of the Asacol and Sulfazalazine helped me until now. I have been flaring since Aug of this year. It totally sucks!
Fortunately, my flare has only presented itself as proctisis this time around. I have now added Rowasa & Hydrocortisone back into my nightly regimine. (since Sept) I have been doing cortifoam in the afternoons as well. (since Sept) And, most recently added canasa in the AM. (since Nov) I am also back on the predisone. =( And, tapering very very slowly. I am down to 25mg, and cannot go down any further. I am still bleeding. Thankfully, I only go to the bathroom in the AM now. And besides the blood, it is somewhat formed.
The Drs say that I need to remain patient and the canasa works very slowly. And, I am just frustrated. I am tired of putting things in my butt 3 x day. If this does not work after all, my choices are Humira or Cyclosporine. Part of me is ready to give up and move on to something else. I just want to be in remission again.
Has anyone else had Canasa take a long time to work? Several Months?
