Imuran

First off, there are MANY of us taking Imuran very successfully.

As a bit of reassurrance, most of the "literature" regarding Imuran is in regards to those who've had transplants. Those of us w/IBD take much lower doses of Imuran than what is scripted for those who have had a transplanted organ.

I've been on Imuran since 2003. Imuran plus Pentasa have kept me in symptomatic and/or total remission since shortly after starting the Imuran. W/in 6 months of starting it.

I worry to. But what I have learned is there is no real "safer alternative" unless you have success with alternate more natural therapies which is not as common with good results. I have taken it on and off for 7 years, maybe more. What I have done recently is stopped taking it (again) I get worried about the side effects but I have lost weight and am starting to feel not so great. So I guess I rather burn out on imuran than fade away and be miserable without it. I have had no known side effects to date.

From what my GI said, it's successful for most people. Make sure you're getting blood tests every few months or so though. I had a rare reaction to it and got pancreatitis really badly, but that's not common at all from what I understand.
