SO frustrated and upset!! Fistula problem

I am on the verge of tears, I am just so upset! My GI had sent me to a gyno to check what was going on and he saw the fistula. When I asked what I should do, he said I couldn't do anything as fistulas come with the territory of Crohn's disease. I would just have to do daily sitz baths for the rest of my life to make sure it doesn't close up and turn into an abscess.
He actually referred me to an Endocrinologist to get birth control because he said that might help. The fistula doesn't even flare during my period!! Wth does that even have to do with the fistula?! So I am going to write to my GI to ask to see if I can go see my colo rectal surgeon to see if he can check it out.
Or should I just make an appt with the surgeon without talking to the GI?
Oh I am just so upset right now
And I am currently on Humira once a week and azathioprine 2x a day. Have been for 2 years.

Your OB/GYN sounds like an idiot. Even if you don't get the fistulas to heal through biologics or Flagyl, you can at least think about getting a seton putting in (either draining/non-cutting or cutting, although I don't agree with cutting ones, personally). Definitely call your GI and get a referral to a surgeon (you can't get into most surgeons without a referral).

And find a new OB/GYN. One that understands Crohn's. Does your GI have one he can recommend that's any better? Or when you call for appointments, ask what their doctor's opinion or training is with Crohn's.

Thanks for your responses! I'm more calmed down now, I was really Pissed off when I got out of the gyno. And scifigal, he doesn't sound like an idiot, he is an idiot. He also saw 6 patients in about 40 minutes which was riduculous, he was just rushing everyone.

I have had 3 fistulas before which is why I am scared of them. I know how they can get worse. That's how I ended up with 3 instead of 1 and they then turned into abscesses. So I know I can't just have a fistula hanging out in my vagina(or anywhere) without it getting worse.
That's why I want to take care of it ASAP,I don't want to make the same mistake twice.
I had the fistulotomy and drainage for the latter by a colo rectal surgeon and it was in the vaginal area and some were in the perianal area. And he did a wonderful job:) It is really becoming a burden having that there. I can only walk 10 minutes and I am already in pain.
Now I am just waiting for a response from my GI. I generally write messages to my GI because I can talk to him directly very quickly without having to go through nurses and assistants. Now it's slower because of New Year's Day. I really just want to get rid of the pain, discomfort and worry.:(
