Hi everybody, i'm french and i will have a visa to work in the U.S. for 18 month. I got the crohn's disease, and my medication is the humira pens. i saw that the price is the same than in france around 1100 $ for 2 pens. But in france with the social security and my "mutuelle" i pay 0 €, i only pay my "mutuelle". I need help because i understand nothing about the health system in the U.S.A. If someone can tell me what should i do. What's the cheapest solution for me. I don't know what to do...

Are you still covered by France's medical system when you are out of the country? Do you have a job here? If so does it have medical benefits as part of your compensation [wage] package?

If you have no job or your job has no medical package, then you will have to pay the cost of the medication yourself. Humira has an assistance program. I do not know if you qualify. If necessary have a relative EXPRESS mail the refills to you.  Be sure to pack them exceptionally well

Thank you for the answer. So i will work in the U.S. With a h-3 visa. My company is MSC and the health insurance with them is call AETNA. I will not be covered in France.

I was on Aetna when I was on Remicade. I paid a 20 copay. I cannot say for sure this would be the same for you. If you have health insurance and you qualify for the Humira plan the other poster told you about you can pay as little as 5.00 for a months supply.

You need to contact either Aetna, or the human resources department of your US employer MSC so you can see what your Aetna contract covers and what your co-pay will be. In the US, the doctor orders the medication, but then the insurance company has to approve it. Also, each Aetna policy is different and is dependent upon the contract that your company worked out. So that means even though the above poster Teddtlove paid a $20 co-pay, it may be different for you. I know it is all ridiculously confusing....welcome to the USA:) Let us know if this makes any sense to you and how we can help clarify things.
