It is a bit mystifying why the doctor didn't discuss this test with you so you would be prepared when the letter came.
British doctor, no mystery about it. Most consultants I've seen offer up information of their own accord about as willingly as Gollum giving up the ring to Frodo.

In case your consultant doesn't mention it, azathioprine takes at least 3 months to start working, so don't expect results quickly. Same applies to 6MP, or mercaptopurine, if you're put on that instead. The two meds are extremely similar, so it doesn't really make any difference which one you're put on. Good luck.
