Cindy,
I have been told that it is possible to have either diarrhea or constipation. That being said, has your doctor considered giving you probiotics? What about IBS? Oftentimes, constipation is much more 'familiar' to IBS... but, like I said, I've heard that wth IBD, it can go both ways. When I first started noticing GI issues, I was always getting small blockages, bloating and extreme constipation. Now, for the 6 months to 1 year, I've had straight up diarrhea, blood, weight loss, EXTREME fatigue, loss of all appetite, etc. If your only symptoms (not to minimize them by any means at all - any ongoing GI symptoms are unfortunate) are chronic pain, bloating, and constipation, my guess would be that you have some sort of motility issue with your colon - this would lead me to believe that you have IBS. But, as always, it's definitely best to get in to see your doctor. I know it's hard to get a diagnosis... heck, I am still in the process - it is more than difficult! But, stay on top of it as much as you can! You know your body more than anyone else and if something feels wrong, it feels wrong. Ask your doctor about doing a maintenance routine of miralax. It's only 1-2 doses a day, each being 1 cap full (17 mg). If mixed good enough, it doesn't taste like anything and isn't noticeable really - it's great in juice or a smoothie, too. You won't get any sudden urges to go and it might take a couple of days to really get into your system. But, doing that for a few weeks might help your body find a working routine that it can regulate itself to. It's definitely worth a shot!

ps. Have you seen a GI?
