Hello. I have been in a flare for about 3 weeks now. It started slow but the last week it got really bad, and I have been off work since Jan 23. Just wondering if anyone had to be off work for long periods of time, and if so, what was it that made you unable to work. I hate this.

I am a stay at home mom and in home daycare provider, I have often thought about how I would make it if I had a job outside of the house, how I would make it and if I would have to take days off because of this dang disease.  When i am feeling well i feel great!  I have been in a flare now since nov. and have had some pretty rough days, glad that I can sit when I need to or use my own bathroom, but tough with having needy kids all day too!! I just try to take it day by day, hope that your work is understanding, but sometimes to rather healthy people they just don't understand! Have you been in contact with your doc.? Mabe time to get on a steroid, or mabe look a something a bit stronger than asacol..  Good luck!

Well, for the past 10plus yrs it was never a problem, I was self employed(truck driver) and I just took time off or stayed home when I needed to. Since July 2012, I sold my truck so I could be home everyday with my family, but knowing sometimes I can't just take the day off because I want to stinks. My employer is pretty good with me with having this dang disease. I have missed a day or two here and there since I started, and never any problems. Now, I have been off a week and I think it's gonna be even more time off work. They are very understanding, also it helps that they are the largest company in the country that does wast hauling, so I think they have others here with this. All in all I rerally can't complain, but Now I have hemmies to go along with this flare so I gotta deal with theses too. Going to see my GI today and see what he thinks.

I am a teacher, and I've had to miss a couple of months at a time, a couple of different times. Once I missed a lot because I got c. diff. which caused a flare, which wore me out so bad I couldn't stand up for a couple of weeks. One time I got pancreatitis from meds and had a feeding tube for a few weeks, and I couldn't teach high school with a tube coming out of my nose! But even with bad flares where I was passing bloody BMs over 20 times/day, I was still able to teach - just hold it until a passing period. So I would say in a situation where I couldn't hold it, I wouldn't go to work.

Well, just got back from my Gi and he's putting me on 6mp along with the asacol. I'm kinda freaked out over the 6mp. I have a scope planned in the next couple weeks, along with having to get blood work every week for the next 4 weeks. So now I'll be taking 12 asacol a day, 6mp(50mg) and starting on pred at 40mg tapering 5 mg a week. I am really freaking out

I have been off from work since Dec 15th, 2012. I just received a note from my Doctors nurse today to bring back o my command to let them know that I will need a least 3-4 more weeks of from work. I just recently got diagnosed with Crohn's and also had to have 3 setons put in place for 3 fistulas. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it looks like I'm gonna be off for another 2-3 weeks, maybe more but I hope not.
