Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else on Remicade is experiencing trouble with their gums. My gums bleed and throb when I brush, and even more so when I floss. Last time I went to the dentist she had to numb my gums just to clean my teeth.

Had a blood test and it came back normal... can't figure it out.

Hi minou, When I was on Remicade in the past I never had that
problem. Have you talked to your GI doctor about this?

Thanks for your reply. I have spoken to my GI and he didn't seem concerned, but it's getting worse now.
I should bring it up with him again, going back to the dentist soon :(

Hello Minou,

I have been on Remicade for 8 years and I also have had issues with bleeding gums to the point where I had 2 gum surgeries under local anasthestic to take gum from the roof of my mouth and stitch to my gum. Sounds worse than it was i actually didnt feel anything. I have spoken to a Dentist, my GI consultant and a peridontist and they all stated it was a combination of meds i was on. At the time I was on prednisolone and so that can create more bleeding.

I was advised to floss more when possible and it has helped a lot. I also get my hygenist to numb my gums for cleaning and it is a lot less painful.

Thought I'd leave an update. The toothpaste I was using cause my gums to bleed. So much so that my dentist had to numb my gums to clean my teeth. Was using a whitening formula. Will be sticking to Tom's of Maine from now on.

I have problems with my gums as well. I'm not sure if it is the Remicade, but Chron's can affect your gums. There is not much they can do about it. Your dentist can perscribe antibiotics and inflimations drugs, but from my experience they don't do much.
