What causes this kind of stool?

I had a resection in may 2011, so this may have something to do with it.

Sometimes when I go, my stool is normal (good length and shape), however it falls apart in the toilet very quickly and when I flush its almost 100% destroyed.

Is this a lack of fiber? or due to my resection or what?

Probably due to the resection - depending on where your resection was. The purpose of the colon is to remove water and bulk the stool. Your stool is not well bulked from what you describe. Transit time may be faster than normal? Colon may not be absorbing as much water as normal? Doesn't sound too bad to me, though.

yeah. sounds like a mild version of my issue after resection. kazbern is correct - faster transit time and less water absorbed from the stool in the colon. talk with your GI before doing anything, but imodium can slow transit time (what my gi doc told me to take) and metamucil can absorb water (surgeon told me to take, gi told me not to)
