if you scroll down about halfway : " Carbohydrate malabsorption will result in a stool pH less than 6 because as carbohydrates reach the colon they are fermented by bacteria, releasing short-chain fatty acids and making the stool water acidic."

You do normally want some carbs (fiber etc) reaching the colon as the resultant short chain fatty acids feed the cells there, and perform other useful functions.

(There are many undesirable products which can remain in the stool and can lead to diarrhea and the burning sensation - rectal mucosa is fairly sensitive. Bile acid/salts is probably the most common one for Crohns patients.)

skofbengsk is correct, CRP and ESR are used as inflammatory indicators. A full blood count, which includes white cell count, is also necessary and fairly standard.

ambling this article is very interesting and informative. It should be required reading for all folks with d. And as you say clearly points out that carbohydrate malabsorption causes acid d. I am going to read this a few times to clearly understand the diagnosis process. It is a great framework to work through what is going on.
I am also going to get the inflammatory markers done.
Over the last couple of days, I felt like my guts were starting to go down hill and I took the anti spasmotic. I would bet that it seemed to work because I want something to work, but after I took the med, things did not get worse. Of course I do not know if things were going to get worse in any case, but at least over the last two days no episodes.
BTW a few years back, our exchange was normal. Discussing things and sharing supportive but valuable information. Somehow it seems like instead of the norm this type of exchange is more the exception. Just wanted to say I really appreciate it. even after all this time, I still have so much to learn

Have you been checked for a blockage. I suggest you ask the dr or go to the er. I suffered for 11 mos. In the hospitol more than I was home. Always put on an ng tube and many cat scans. Once I finally had surgery, relief. I haven't been in that pain or gone to the er for almost 4 yrs now

Hi Dave, sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I don't know how you feel about this but what about adding a mesalamine enema such as Rowasa to the mix? You could give it a two to three week trial to see if you are in a small flare and if adding Rowasa helps bring you out so you can continue on as you were prior to this latest event.

You most certainly can burn there.  I have "dumping syndrome" where the gallbladder dumps a lot of bile down the intestines.

Does it start to come out as yellow fluid after an explosive episode?

I take Questran for bile absorption some people take Welchol.

I suggest you search for a second opinion.
