How many time you took prednisone before going on imuran?

Hi I have crohns colitis mainly in sigmoid colon. Bleeding is my main symptoms. Then flared really bad in 2012 had blood and mucus and had to use bathroom 5-6 times.No D or much pain. I took prednisone in 2010 for 4 weeks starting 40 mg when I got diagnosed and then in 2012 for 6 weeks. Currently bleeding again and started hydrocordisone enema which is helping but my doctor is pushing me to go on imuran.

I also take 12 asacol/day, Rowasa and canasas. Still started bleeding. I really don't want to go on imuran. what are my options? when did you decide to take imuran? How long you took imuran? If you stop taking imuran, how are you maintaining now?

It's been 3 years for my colonoscopy so I don't know how am I doing currently but in 2010 I only had couple of inches of inflamation. Any advice will be helpful.Thanks.

I would take Imuran over Prednisone any day. The side effects of pred are 1000X worse (for me) than anything I have suffered from Imuran, which to date is nothing.
I have been on it for a number of years and feel it has been helpful in keeping my CD in control for the most part.

I would definitely pick Imuran over pred. I was on it for almost a year, but then I had a rare side effect of pancreatitis and had to stop. I hate being on pred, and it's not a long-term treatment at all.

I took Imuran for 2 years before I had my 2 kids. I went off all meds for the last 3 1/2 yrs havign babies. Now I am having issues and have been taking prednisone for the last 2 months. I hate the side effects like everyone else. I recently also started back on Imuran. Never had a side effect from it. Good luck to you .

I have been on Imuran for 10 years but still take prednisone on and off, right now just 5 mg, cannot seem to get below that little amount. But for the long run it really is not good.

You should ask your GI if Entocort will work for you instead of pred. Imuran is fine for me. Pred gave me aches and pains in my knees and ankles. Entocort was much better.
