Crohn's and acid reflux

I am a returning member who is in need of help. My crohn's has been all over the place since I have last been here. It has been diagnosed in my eyes as well as my joints and bowel. For the most part, I am what I would call stable. I have good days, bad days, and wheelchair days. I try to remain positive but sometimes this disease sucks.

My GI is adequate and for the major stuff, I trek up to the Mayo with hubby. Currently, my GI is away on a family emergency and my primary cannot see me until Monday.

During the last two weeks, I have had trouble swallowing. I am choking on everything, including water. I also have a difficult time swallowing my pills. And last night, out of nowhere, I woke up with acid pouring into my throat and I vomited. This continued for a little bit and then it stopped. I then woke up this morning with chest pain that was unbelievable. I just sat there motionless not knowing what was going on. I knew it wasn't a heart issue because of the acid earlier. I tried calling my GI and only got the nurse who said to change the time I take my dexilant and that he was out of the office.

My acid reflux has been controlled up to this point. I have never had trouble swallowing with acid reflux before. I am wondering if anyone else has any experience with this. I have been in so much pain today with my throat and chest.

I've been there, Junerainbow. I had an esophageal stricture early in my disease. I think it came about as a result of both pregnancy-induced GERD and the inflammatory bowel, but it was duly cured by a balloon procedure during an endoscopy.

I complained for months to my GI about having trouble swallowing. He pretty much ignored me until I couldn't swallow my Pentasa. At that point he seemed surprised and said "you're having trouble swallowing?" ugh.

I did a swallow study and then had the endoscopy. The swallow study didn't show anything, and upon endoscopy he reported only mild gastritis and esophagitis. But he did a balloon dilation anyway and when I woke up I was a new person.

At that point I hadn't been able to eat a solid meal for about a week and had lost some weight. When I got home from the procedure I started eating like there was no tomorrow and didn't stop for a month, LOL!

When my CD was more severe, I had CD issues in my throat, espho., and stomach..I had problems swallowing and seemed to choke easy on food and drinks..I was given something to take 30 minutes before I ate to calm things down .I was taking nexium, carafate, and donotol..Tried regulin but reacted badly to it..I had esophageal spasms that felt like a heart attack. All I wanted to do was vomit so I was taking phenegren as needed as well..
