I was diagnosed in 2007 with CD in the colon after having two large rectal fistulas. I got on the SCD diet and followed it to te absolute letter while at the same time, I was taking pentassa. In 8 months, both fistulas were healed up and I was in complete remission. I have been symptom free ever since. I still follow the SCD diet, but not so fanatical as before, and I still take pentassa 1000mg 3xday. Now if I were to stop pentassa, could I maintain remission on the diet alone? I don't know. I think it is the combination of both that is keeping me in remission. Since pentassa is cheap and I have no side effects, I will continue to take it. One thing I do know, it was not the pentassa that healed my fistulas. GI said that in all his career, he has never seen fistulas as large as mine heal with pentassa alone, so it must be the diet that didi it, or maybe the combination of both.
