Eye problems and Crohn's

Starting last week, my eyes started to itch and I had a burning sensation. I thought that my eyeglasses got changed as I have been wearing eyeglasses since I was 9 yrs old. I saw an othamologist and he said that pred, budesonide and Imuran caused me dryness. When I blink, there is a kind of friction. I was prescribed two types of eye drops: a steroid one and a lubricant eye drop. I became better for 2 days and here I'm back again w tearing and pain. I'm working on my PhD and I have to read a lot. Is this Crohn's playing w me or is it just something temporary that will go on its own w z use of eye drops?
Any replies are highly appreciated.

I'm not sure about your eyes, I have sensitivity to light now that I started remicade. I've always had burning, itching and dry eyes, when I've been on medications of not. My eye doctor did nothing so I hope the drops help.
I'm wondering if you know that immuran is basically azathioprine in a different form so its processed by your liver a little differently is what I was told the difference was. They are the same medication basically so I'm wondering if you say you failed azathioprine because of stomach pain? My daughter has vasculitis and is on imuran but was on azathioprine, she had horrible stomach problems from it so they switched her to imuran. Imuran costs a lot more then azathioprine. Insurance didn't want to pay for imuran until her doc said she couldn't tolerate azathioprine. I found out then that immuran cost about 7 times as much as azathioprine. Just wondering if you knew about azathioprine/imuran. I really hope the drops help.

34 year old female dx Crohns in 2005
Since then dx w peripheral neuropathy, pulmonary fibrosis, arthritis in left hip, fibromyalgia, and waiting to see a rheumatologist for possibly another dx.
20mg a day prednisone
Remicade infusions
Monthly B12 shots
Klonipin 1mg morn 1mg noon 3mg at bed
Gabbapentin 300mg morning 600mg at bed
Zofran 8mg dissolvable tablet every 6 hrs as needed
Promethazine 25mg every 6 hrs as needed
Vitamin D3 4000IU
Multivitamin
Vicodin 5/500 1-2 three times in a 24 hr period since starting remicade (I've had 4 infusions) all my joints swelled up they're stiff, red and very painful. Hands are the worst.
They want me to start 200mg of azathioprine also while I'm waiting to see a rheumatologist.

My boy developed Arthritis and Iritis while on immuran. For the Iritis, same idea, two types of drops, steroid, and lube. within two weeks of stopping immuran, both improved. within three months, no sign of either. I don't much care for immuran

I developed iritis before I was even prescribed anything for the crohn's so I blame that eye inflammation on crohn's. For the last 3 to 4 years I developed dry eyes which is very uncomfortable at times, then I got a form of pink eye. It lasted several weeks. Besides viral and bacterial conditions, pink eye can also be caused by inflammatory diseases. Now last year when I went to the eye doctor, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. My doctor blames that on the prednisone I was taking. My GI said I should also be tested for glucoma regularily since crohn's puts one in a higher risk bracket to develop it. Sometimes when eyedrops are not enough. I wet a clean washcloth and dip it in warm water, and use it as a compress. It really helps. I then instill the eyedrops. I have been through a few brands of eyedrops. For some reason, the eye gets use to one brand after a while, and changing the eyedrops to another brand can sometimes help. Also if you need to do a lot of book work and reading, take breaks and blink your eyes several times to avoid strain and pain and dryness.
