Hi Annie,I had that procedure done about 2 years ago this summer. When my doc. suggested it I was pretty nervous about it cause I hadn't really heard much about it and really never heard of anyone having it done. I did some research on it, you can find videos of the procedure on utube, but that actually kind of freak myself out by watching stuff like that!! I was put under with general anestethia (sp??) I think I was more worried about that than anything! It all went fine! He was able to take the scope down my throat all the way down to the beginning of my colon/terminal ileum. He was going in with the thought of using the balloon to dialate any strictures I had in my small bowel. Bf having this procedure I had a ct that had showed multiple strictured areas in my small bowel. Well... he got in there and didn't end up finding anything with any real concern, he found an ulcered area that was healed over and looked more like a scar. He was pleasingly surprised by the outcome. As far as recovery, I was not sore at all in my abdomen, my throat was sore for about a day or two from the breathing tube they have to put in. I was a tired that day and napped when I got home, kind of felt like I feel after a colonoscopy, just drained. I wonder if he would of had to dialate any areas mabe I would have been more sore? I was relieved after having it done, bc even with a pill cam it cant see everything, with this scope he was able to see my whole digestive tract, I had had a colonoscopy done a month or so bf that so he didn't need to go up that way too!! If I had to I would do it again no questions... especially if it kept me from having surgery!! I also very much trust my doc. and feel he is very experienced. Good luck! Keep us posted on how it goes!
