I am new to this forum so go easy on me. I have been suffering with abscess and fistula since 2011 but my consultant said there was no reason for getting these he just said I was just unlucky to be getting them but recently over the last couple of months I have been having stomach cramps, bloating and changes in bowel habits, so my consultant decided to do a colonoscopy. I had the colonoscopy a week ago they took biopsies but i have not recieved the results yet but he spoke to me after the colonoscopy and said it is very likely that I have crohns but he said it is mild. I have had no problems with the fistula or abscess since the surgery which was about a year ago all the abscess wounds had now healed and there was just discharge from the seton in the fistula. Until a couple of days ago when under the healed abscess wound it had become inflamed and tender I realised straight away this was an abscess because I had fever as well, this new abscess on the previous abscess scar is so painful it has already started leaking. Now that I know it is very likely that I have crohns I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the crohns is what has caused the absess to re-occur? And will they stop re-appearing only till after crohns is under control?

Welcome! Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I've had an abscess and a fistula, and they were the result of Crohn's. The most successful way of dealing with fistulizing Crohn's is with the biologics - Remicade, Humira. Other people recommend the SCD diet and have had great success with that. I would say that getting your Crohn's under control is the best way to get your fistulas and abscesses to heal up. In the meantime, though, call your dr ASAP about the new abscess.

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it, I have told my consultant about what's happened but not directly just through his secretary, he said he cannot see me till next week because he's on call but he told me to go to my GP which I have, my GP presecribed me antibiotics and pain killers, the abscess is still leaking and yesterday it was bleeding but is less painful then a couple of days ago. Next week I am going to see my consultant about the colonoscopy results and now too show him the new abscess.
Scifigal2k, thanks for the reply, do remicade and humira have a lot of side effects, how bad are they?and has the fistula that you said you had has it healed? Sorry that I'm asking a lot of questions I am just worried, all this and I'm only 18

Scifigal2k, thanks for the reply its so good to be able to actually talk with someone in a similar situation. I'm still waiting for the confirmation that I have CD, I won't know until Wednesday but it is inevitable, I'm guessing that I will be introduced to another doctor now, I think I still haven't understood the full consequence of the disease, can anybody tell me how serious this is? and how much it will affect the quality of my life? I'm still at college so am just very worried and confused and wondering if I will ever get better!
