Started SCD

Third day today.

Less gas and tummy rumbling, and certainly less looseness of stools.

Interestingly, the bloat has gone down, including in my hands. Connected or not? Normally, I would struggle with my rings, getting them on and off, but for the past few days, my puffy fingers are back to normal.

Good luck to you! I hope you see good results on it. I'm not good with strict diets myself, would never be able to follow or stick to it. I started Humira today, I'm hoping it's my miracle drug! Hope we both get relief soon!

I am a big fan of saccharomyces boulardii. You might find that it goes well with SCD...

I hope you have much success with the SCD as I have had. The secret to getting this diet to work is 100% fanatical dedication and no cheating with non scd foods.

I have been on it since 2007, and have been symptom free ever since.

MySelf09, keep going, it is worth it! You will have times of fatigue, but they pass and any pain I have usually occurs when I do not bring my own food to family functions. My extended family does not understand.
I am glad to see more talk about SCD here. It is wonderful and has helped. I gave my doc the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", will quiz him when I go back. Also, "Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet" has some more yummy legal dishes.
BTW, dfdavedf, how do you prepare to travel? We are traveling soon this month and I am nervous. Luckily we are driving, however, I may travel for work by plane this fall.
Sometimes I long to drink a cold beer, or have a carmel filled stick. However, nothing tastes as good as how I have felt these past six months. Good Luck!

My milk is cooling, as I type. Still goofing up occasionally, especially when out and about. For instance, was at a seminar yesterday and got a salad for lunch, to go. I was stuck with the creamy italian dressing, by the time I opened the durned thing. Sigh. Live and learn.

Week one, lost 4.6 pounds. This is a good thing!

I have been doing SCD for about 3 years now. In the last 3 or 4 months I have had both a pill cam and a colonoscopy (yesterday). Both have come back with " you are perfectly healthy". I was diagnosed by pill cam and my small intestines were full of ulcers. Nothing will take me off SCD. As having crohn's can really screw up getting insurance I talked my doc into taking all references to CD off my chart. It would not be totally wrong to say SCD has cured my crohn's. I have had my ups and downs, but I thank god for SCD. I was on the path to surgery and bad drugs (as told to me by the doc) and now I have a perfectly healthy gut.

S. boulardi - It is fantastic for D. it is SCD legal. Start low and slow but some folks take up to 8 per day. It can be used to treat an episode or as maintenance. I use it only as required as it is so strong for me it can cause C.

Gcoupe - I have two yougourmet yogurt makers. I would not recommend them. I now make all yogurt in the oven. You can make as much as you want and it works perfectly. I heat, cool and cook the yogurt all in one pot. I believe us SCDers need all the kitchen gadgets to make cooking easier but I think oven is easiest.

s.aunt - travel tips - make food and bring it with you. I freeze portions in glass containers. Some folks buy fridges or even freezers they plug into the car. They take this into hotel room and plug in every night.
If possible get a hotel room with a kitchen. If this is not available, buy an electric frying pan, a plastic flipper, and some paper plates and plastic forks and knives and some salt. This will be 50 to 60 bucks. The best place to buy this is Target. Then get some SCD legal food and cook in the room. Most hotels have or will put a fridge in your room. Wash electric fry pan in bath tub. I make chicken and peppers, steak and asparagus, lamb stew, eggs and peppers, all sorts of good stuff. Even when you consider the cost of the electric fry pan, it can be about the same price if you make your own over 2 or 3 days. I have done this so many times it seems normal to me. I eat in restaurants very infrequently even if I am traveling for weeks in a row.

myself 09, cruciferous veggies are hard on my gut, too. the only kind I can have is sauerkraut (1 spoon at a time) but definitely no raw cabbage or cabbage juice. those give me horrendous gas and cramping.

I love my yogurt maker, too. I've tried the oven method 3 separate times and it gives me liquid crappy yogurt every time.

Deakin-I do spaghetti squash and have no ill effects. Everyone has a different body.

Anyone eat salads? I am still nervous about carrots. Stay away from celery and raw peppers. I have been eating arugula salads recently, and just added in a handful of spinach. So far, so good.

I have been reading more and more about the SCD on here, and I finally picked up the booked yesterday but haven't had a chance to do a thorough read yet. I have a stricture which left me on low residue diet from aug/12-feb/13 started remicade in nov/12 and it has allowed me to eat most things now, but too much veggies will cause pain. I have a seton placed for a peri anal fistula I have, and take Metamucil. My problem is keeping things moving and not backed up,,

so with the brief history, from what I have read on SCD its lots of veggies and such. Do any of you have strictures, or had them and how did u adjust to the SCD? I currently eat lots of white breads, rice, all the highly processed stuff, but it totally leaves me run down and I crave veggies, but sometimes my system just can handle them.. I am nervous of the transition onto SCD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you are all getting along well. i have not had cabbage since I started the diet. Thought it would gas me up too bad. Also, I have to take the stems off the spinach. Was in the ER all bound up and they said that may have caused it.
I still have "symptoms". Had them for years, now I know what is causing the ruckus in my gut. They are better than they were. Also, I have lost 26 pounds since the first of the year... (I am 5'1"), my parents are still freaking out. Years ago, I had a major flare and lost even more. (Gained most of it back..LOL) Have mantained my weight for 4 weeks, which is a good thing. And, I did not lose my hair like years ago. I am much healthier on the SCD!
Traveling was weird. My husband was better about keeping ice in the cooler than I was. Used the cards that are on a blog and might be in the Breaking the Vic. Cycle book with some success. My new montra is that "Nothing tastes as good as how good I feel". Max and Irma's has a build your own sandwhich. All the toppings were legal and it was beautiful. (I don't miss the buns.)
I make yogert in 2, 1qt. glass jars sitting in a water bath in a deep fryer. Takes some work to get the temp right but so worth it. Deaken-What sort of bags do you use? dfdavedf-Thanks for the advice. Did not think about cooking in the room. (we left before you responded, I appreciate and will use your ideas.)

Sorry, I should have thought of that, Deakin. I love Canada, we vacationed there growning up. I go through the 2 qts usually in 2-3 days. I miss milk so the yogert helps. Hope this finds you well.
