I have been having symptoms for months. Constant pain, fatigue, bathroom trips, etc. I even had panic attacks due to vitamin deficiency, which was treated. My old primary was of no help (put me on psyche meds because it was "all in my head). I had a horrible reaction and have switched primaries, my first appointment is in two weeks. The other night I was in the ER doubled over in pain. They ran a contrast CAT scan and noticed some "abnormalities". Coupled with a rampant family history of UC, GERD, and Crohn's they say that it is highly likely that I am the newest victim. I need advise - diet, tips, anything! I am scared and, while my diagnosis is not yet official, I need to start working on getting better. I am sick of always feeling sick - especially with all the bathroom trips. Thank you.

Hi Curv,

Some days it seems that these symptoms will never go, isn`t it? On the other side, you are close to have an oficial diagnosis, and thats great news, that so you have a GOOD hope to be better!

For now, you can`t have meds that need prescription, so the trick is hang on (awfull, no?), stress control (stress can make things worse) and a bland diet. Take supplements to not lose to much weight (ensure like things). Vit D could be a good idea, plenty on Amazon...

For diet, low residue and bland food. (lot of stuff about food around this forum - you can do a search).

I hope they are following your CT scan up with a colonoscopy and upper GI studies. If possible you want biopsies to confirm a diagnosis for you, so you can get on proper medication. Welcome to the forum and I hope you sort everything out soon!

The ER said I definitely need a colonoscopy. But I have to wait until I can see my primary. I really hope to find out definitely soon.

Your primary is not going to scope you. You need a gastroenterologist, hopefully someone who treats lots of IBDers. Do you have to get a referral from your primary? One thing you could do right now is start networking and getting referrals from friends and acquaintences for good GIs.

New to this forum and not totally sure how to reply directly to some of you. Start with basics. If someone thinks they have bladder/colon fistula, what kind of doctor do you first see. (GI, internist, colon/rectal surgeon/ urologist ??) I see posts about using "setons" for fistulas, what is this. Looking for good dr in the Dallas or Oklahoma City area for my mother. Any advice appreciated.

Welcome to healing well. Normally, you should start a new thread under "Post new topic" when you have a question and you are not replying to the original person's post. If you think you have a bladder colon fisula, you can start with a GI, but if you need a referral and it takes a long time to get an appointment, then go to your internist who can at least examine you and help get things started. Good luck. You can go to ccfa.org for doctor referrals for a GI

If your mom is passing fecal matter in her urine, or has chronic bladder infections, a urologist should be someone she is already seeing. She'll have to have a scan done to find the fistula.
