My GI is starting the paperwork for insurance to get me on Humira. I have a question. Is this something I will be on long term or just for a little while. Little bit scared to start taking it.

I have been on Humira in 2011 and did okay with no side effect, just experienced some lethargy.

I'm on it again now, started it about 10 days ago, not experiencing any side effects of it yet.

Chances of developing lymphona is VERY VERY VERY low. Super low.

It's a long term drug but if you do well I think you can go for monthly shots or even wean off of it according to some people.

Hello I used to be on Humira for 5 years. It kept me in remission.
I had to come off of the Humira because small tremours in my left
hand.

It's a LOT better than dealing with the side effects of prednisone!

It took me a while to get use to the shots, but it really isn't a big deal. When I was on Humira, I caught colds and strep more often and presented with symptoms differently. For instance, I would feel super tired and would rarely ever have a fever. Just keep an eye out. If you think you're getting sick, take it easy and listen to your body. If it's anything more serious than a cold (ie strep, flu, etc), call your doctor right away. It was super helpful when I finally figured out the hours of the walk-in clinics near me.

Thanks for giving me some answers. Part of my problem is I have read to much info on the Internet. I always read up on any medicine/illness/symptom I might have. I have had myself almost dead several times. Lol. I know I need the Humira or my GI wouldn't be telling me it's time bring out the battle ship. :).. I will check out that link you posted. :)

I've read that weight gain is an issue for some people on Humira. But I really can use the extra weight at the moment.

How much have you gained? Is it really that bad? along with the joint pain for you?

I can definitely use the weight gain. Have been on prednisone for almost 4 months and haven't gained a pound. I went from 198 lbs to 119 lbs. So tired of looking sickly. :(

Same here. I don't get the puffy face or GAIN the extra weight while on Prednisone.

dybeye, where's your Crohn's most located in?

Are you on any specific diet? or do you have any food that bother ya?

I've been on it for over a month now, and doing really well so far. No side effects, except for maybe being a bit tired for a day or two after I give the shot. My stools have formed up, still a bit on the soft side, but it's a huge improvement. No more pain, and I was in a lot of pain before I started.

I have a hard time on prednisone. I'm still on it, and it really didn't do much for me this time around. I've put on maybe 10 pounds this time around (and I don't need it, that's for sure). And this is the FIRST time I've got the puffy moon face. I hate it! I go down to 15 mg next week, and I can't wait to get off of it.

GI said the large intestine is horrible looking. The small bowel follow up shows it starting in the small intestine. My diagnose is severe chrons because it's been untreated for years. I am suppose to be doing a low residue diet. It's been difficult. I can't tolerant any raw vegetable, fruit I have to peel and can't have seeds, popcorn it out. The list goes on and on. Just found out I cant do milk. I pretty much learnt to deal with it. Once the weight started falling off and I hardly left the house my family got me convinced to have it checked out. I have a wonderful GI. He has helped me out so much. Hr has me text him weekly with how I am doing and he always replies. :)
