So I saw my GI yesterday and she ordered a Gastric Emptying Study for me to do tomorrow.
So it is my understanding that I get to eat radioactive eggs, hospital eggs at that. Oh the joy lol

I knew by your post title that this was the test you were getting done.
hope they make you a good omelet! the hospital cafeteria is always so stingy with breakfasts. there is like 1/4 cup of eggs on the plate with a small piece of toast.

Hi Jason,
I like scrambled eggs, but the thought of radiation in the eggs, did gross me out too! It didn't taste any different, it just was more psychological. At the time I was doing the test I was very ill, so I was past caring about
much. I did end out having slow gastric emptying (gastroparesis) and had to be on medication for awhile. For me it was temporary....I had c.diff and a Crohn's flare at the time, and once everything cleared up, my gastroparesis also resolved. Good luck with the test....they take x-rays every 20 minutes or so until the eggs clear your stomach....it took over an hour for me and they still weren't cleared.

Hey, just to make you feel better Gumby. All milk sold in the USA today is radiated to prolong shelf like. They started radiating it in the mild dispense to schools first and as that proved successful they expanded to all milk sold commerically.
Jason, good luck w/your test. Would you please reduce your signature to 10 lines or less. That is requested in the forum rules, I "ain't" picking on yuh. Honest injun.

JasonCPhT,
As long it is low level. These things too, shall pass. I have had radioactive isotopes injected in the blood stream before. A better question would be what's the element or what's the half life. It sure can't be much. What ever you do keep out of DHS areas while your hot. That could ruin your afternoon. :)

Jason,
I could have guessed what test you were referring to just by the title... I've eaten radioactive eggs, had the stuff injected into my blood stream, & had more X-rays & Ct scans than I can count, but no matter what they do, I still don't glow. Alas, I'll have to settle for coating myself in sparkly make-up then dancing around under black lights. *winks*
You'll do great with, after all the hype, is a really boring breakfast. More importantly I hope you are well & if not, I hope the test reveals something that leads them to something that they can do to help you get or feel better.

Hey Jas, Have had the scrambled eggs test. They don't really taste any different than regular eggs. I actually felt like such crap they were better than the ng tube I'd been tasting for a week lol. You'll do great! I was surprised to hear from the dr that a stomach should actually empty with in 7-8 min..mine felt like days....but after the test they told me mine was around 9 minutes. Which was another confirmation that my small intestines r f'd up cuz once it gets there I have trouble. It's a good tests to eliminate some things."

I ate the eggs and they were nasty. Cooked in a Styrofoam cup in a microwave but I ate them with now problem then laid in the machine for 90 minutes.
Have felt sick all day. I always get sick if I eat in the morning and the test was at 10:00AM.

Hi Jason,
If it turns out that you have gastroparesis, my doc prescribed Domperidone. It is supposed to have less side effects than Reglan, which is also commonly prescribed. I am in the US and you have to order it out of Canada. My gastroparesis was temporary....somehow I got all screwed up when I had c.difficile. The medication helped a lot. Let us know what your results are.

I know, Gumby. In the last, say 10 years, maybe not quite that long have you encountered any milk w/a good date that tastes, smells, is "sour" or spoiled?
That is how we learned about
the radiated milk. My grandaughter got a box of good dated milk that was sour from a school cafeteria. One of the ladies working in the cafeteria told us about
it. A lady from another school cafeteria who was working a 4H food concession at a horse show told us more about
it.
Twice we have bought milk w/a good date from the grocery store that went sour before its sell by date.

Well the GI nurse called me just after lunch today and said that my test results were in. After 90 minutes only 50% of the stomach had emptied. She said that I cant have fat, fiber or red meat and that I need to eat several small meals a day instead of 3 regular ones. They are mailing me some stuff.

Jason, ive read that protein can take up to three hours to leave the stomach so aren't your results normal? Why add extra limitations?

She said that I am "borderline" and that the diet modifications were needed to avoid needing more medication and to help the symptoms. Any less and I would need medications and possibly injections inside the stomach.
